The current rumour is that Andrea Trinchieri the current coach of Mapooro Cantu in Italy will be named head coach. Now if this is best we can do and God I hope it isn't then things are pretty bad. Might as well have kept Zouros.

We have of course probably the best Zeljko Obradovic followed by Panagiotis Giannakis, Ettore Messinna, David Blatt, Sergio Scariolo and Fotis Katsikaris who is good enough for Russia but not for us. Why do we have to settle for the scraps. Now I know money is a problem and some coaches like Blatt do not want to work in the summer and for all I know maybe they were all offered and they all rejected. Its sad to see the NT like this. We have players who quit the team early, always injuries and now we can't get a quality coach. This is one of the best NT in the world with the best players and we can't get someone to turn things around. If we can't get a quality foreign coach then I don't want one at all. If not Giannakis or Katsikaris then someone else. I will settle for Zouros.

what about the guy from zalgiris rumours were saying he was a candidate. what happend to him. This italo is he any good?

The coach of Zalgiris Joan Plaza apparently has his eyes set on being coach of the Spanish national team. The Italo Trinchieri does not have much on his resume. He is a young coach at 44 years old. He has been coaching various first and second division teams in Italy. I think he was named coach of the year in Italy last year for taking Cantu with no big star players to the Euroleague. I guess he is considered a good up an coming coach. However we do not need an experiment as a coach. We are one of the best teams with the best players and we should have one of the best coaches. I still hope its not Trinchieri but reports say he has signed a two year deal and is waiting for the ok from his club team Cantu.

Andrea Trinchieri will coach the Greek National Team for the next two years. The Italian coach agreed with the Greek Federation and will sign a contract in the coming days. Greece will play Italy at Eurobasket 2013. Trinchieri is currently coaching Italian Seria A team Mapooro Cantu (since 2009/2010). Cantu also played in the Euroleague at the beginning of the season.

^Got the feeling he wont last long. If we couldn't attract some top names, I'd rather se Sferopoulos get the chance.

I wonder if Spanoulis has something to do with them not going for Obradovic...

Apparently there are still some issues with the Trinchieri signing. The issues are 1st that the greek basketball federation does not want him signing with either Olympiakos or Panathinaikos once his contract is up and 2 they want to put in their own Greek assistant coaches instead of Trinchieri bringing in his own team. His salary which is not an issue will be 80.000 euro a year.

We need to get Giannakis. We had the most success and amazing comebacks under him. He is made for the NT. Unfortunetly as long as the fossil Vasilakopoulos is head of the Hellenic Basketball Federation that won't happen.

Ο Αντρέα Τρινκέρι είναι ο νέος προπονητής της Εθνικής ομάδας όπως ανακοίνωσε επίσημα η ΕΟΚ. Διετές το συμβόλαιο του Ιταλού κόουτς που θα έχει συνεργάτες τους Λιμνιάτη, Παπανικολάου και Καντζούρη.

Ο προπονητής της Καντού διαδέχεται τον Ηλία Ζούρο και θέτει ως πρώτο στόχο τη διάκριση της ομάδας στο Ευρωμπάσκετ της Σλοβενίας. Οι συζητήσεις με την ΕΟΚ είχαν αρχίσει εδώ και αρκετό καιρό και η συμφωνία επιτεύχθηκε πριν από λίγες ημέρες αφού εξασφαλίστηκε και η σύμφωνη γνώμη της Καντού.

Η ανακοίνωση και το βιογραφικό του

Η Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Καλαθοσφαίρισης ανακοινώνει τη συμφωνία της με τον Αντρέα Τρινκέρι, ο οποίος θα είναι ο προπονητής της Εθνικής Ανδρών για τα επόμενα δύο χρόνια. Συνεργάτες του στον πάγκο θα είναι ο Γιώργος Λιμνιάτης, ο Δημήτρης Παπανικολάου και ο Ηλίας Καντζούρης.

Ο Τρινκέρι γεννήθηκε στο Μιλάνο στις 6 Αυγούστου 1968 και το 1998 άρχισε την προπονητική του καριέρα ως μέλος του τεχνικού επιτελείου της Ολίμπια Μιλάνο. Εκεί έμεινε μέχρι το 2004, οπότε και ανέλαβε την καθοδήγηση της Βανόλι ως το 2007. Ακολούθησε η Γιουβεκαζέρτα, η Βερόλι την αγωνιστική περίοδο 2008-09 και έκτοτε, είναι στην τεχνική ηγεσία της Καντού. Με τη νυν ομάδα του έχει αναδειχθεί καλύτερος προπονητής στην Ιταλία το 2010 και το 2011, έχει κατακτήσει το Super Cup της χώρας το 2012 και έχει καθιερώσει την ομάδα του ως μια υπολογίσιμη δύναμη στην Ευρωλίγκα.

Μετά την επισημοποίηση της συμφωνίας, ο Αντρέα Τρινκέρι έκανε τις πρώτες δηλώσεις του ως προπονητής της Εθνικής Ελλάδας.

-Τι σημαίνει για την καριέρα σας η ανάληψη της τεχνικής ηγεσίας μιας Εθνικής Ομάδας που πάντα στοχεύει ψηλά;

«Η Εθνική Ελλάδας είναι μεταξύ των κορυφαίων σε όλο τον κόσμο και αυτό το γεγονός από μόνο του, αποτελεί για μένα μια τεράστια τιμή, αλλά ταυτόχρονα και μια τεράστια ευθύνη».

-Ήταν κάτι ξαφνικό για εσάς αυτή η πρόταση ή είχατε σημάδια του ενδιαφέροντος από νωρίς;

«Ξέρω ότι κυκλοφορούν διάφορες φήμες, αλλά πιστέψτε με, συνέβη πολύ ξαφνικά και αποτέλεσε μια πολύ ευχάριστη εξέλιξη για μένα».

-Η απόφαση ήταν εύκολη για εσάς ή είχατε να σκεφτείτε κάποια πράγματα πριν συμφωνήσετε;

«Ποτέ δεν θα μπορούσα να αρνηθώ μια πρόταση από την Εθνική Ελλάδας, ειδικά με τον τρόπο που με προσέγγισε ο πρόεδρος κ. Βασιλακόπουλος και τον τρόπο που μου εκδήλωσε το ενδιαφέρον. Πρέπει να ευχαριστήσω ιδιαίτερα και την ομάδα μου, την Καντού, που μου έδωσε την άδεια να ανταποκριθώ σε αυτή τη μεγάλη πρόκληση».

-Γνωρίζετε καλά τους Έλληνες παίκτες. Συμφωνείτε με την άποψη ότι αυτή η γενιά των διεθνών είναι πολύ ταλαντούχα και μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε διακρίσεις την ομάδα;

«Υπάρχουν πολλοί Έλληνες παίκτες, οι οποίοι συνδυάζουν το ταλέντο, την εμπειρία και τη φιλοδοξία. Για να αποτελέσουν όμως όλοι αυτοί ένα σύνολο παικτών-νικητών, είναι κάτι διαφορετικό και χρειάζεται να βρεθεί η σωστή χημεία. Αυτός είναι ο στόχος μας, με λίγα λόγια να γίνουμε ΟΜΑΔΑ».

-Θα μας πείτε με λίγες λέξεις την μπασκετική σας φιλοσοφία;

«Πιστεύω ότι τα απλά πράγματα είναι καλύτερα. Όλοι πρέπει να βοηθούν όλους στην άμυνα, όλοι πρέπει να μοιράζονται την μπάλα στην επίθεση».

-Ο πρώτος σας αγώνας μετά τη συμφωνία, είναι εναντίον της Μιλάνο, της ομάδας των Αντώνη Φώτση και Γιάννη Μπορούση. Σκοπεύετε μετά τον αγώνα να έχετε την πρώτη σας συζήτηση για την Εθνική;

«Σε ένα διάσημο παλιό βιβλίο, υπάρχει γραμμένη η φράση «υπάρχει χρόνος για τα πάντα». Θα παρακολουθήσω στενά και θα συζητήσω μαζί με το επιτελείο της ομοσπονδίας, όλους τους παίκτες οι οποίοι μπορεί να συμμετάσχουν στο πρώτο ραντεβού της Εθνικής, όταν αρχίσουμε την προετοιμασία. Όπως ο κ. Βασιλακόπουλος επεδίωξε να με συναντήσει για να συζητήσουμε από κοντά, και το εκτίμησα ιδιαίτερα, έτσι θα συναντήσω κι εγώ τους παίκτες για να συζητήσουμε».

-Στην πρώτη φάση του Ευρωμπάσκετ, θα τεθείτε αντιμέτωπος με την Εθνική Ομάδα της πατρίδας σας. Αυτή η αναμέτρηση γεννά κάποια ιδιαίτερα συναισθήματα;

«Έχω γεννηθεί στο Μιλάνο, έζησα στο Μιλάνο, δούλεψα στο Μιλάνο, ενώ τα τέσσερα τελευταία χρόνια εργάζομαι στην Καντού. Νομίζω ότι ο καθένας μπορεί να καταλάβει ότι υπάρχει μια ιδιαιτερότητα».

Trinchieri who???? I'm not sure how that decision was made to hire an Italian coach, the Italian league really is beneath the Greek one and this guy coached 2nd division and Cantu...Don't understand the drop in ambition, we have a lot of very talented players on the team and promising potential, I don't see why hire an Italian nobody who has no connection to Greek basketball.

Our coach is a joke, is that the best we could do???? especially now that we have some in-form Olympiakos players!

^At least let the man get some time, before we tear him apart. Maybe an "unorthodox" choice like this will turn out for the better. Nevertheless he will have a very good team to work with this year.
