While I have many, Borussia Dortmund's is probably my favourite in the world:

The Dortmund stadium actually dates back to the late 80s or early 90s, and back then was considered to be one of the best football stadiums in the world because it was compact, separated fans, etc.

It was a stadium with 4 stands, one on each side of the pitch. The round bits on the corners were added later....originally you could see through these bits.

I wasn't questioning your choice, I was just stating my opinion. I like them massive and/or unique, like the San Siro or Estadio Municipal de Braga.

Or Stadion Vozdovac in Serbia. Looks and practicality.

What an entrance. Look at that security! It's sad to think their security would possibly be on par or better than GSL..

Fun fact; that stadium wouldn't be considered as an elite stadium in Greece.

^^^^

worshippy.gif I dont have a strong allegianced to Arsenal anymore, I think I lost the passion when we changed crest and moved stadium.... but there was always a magic about this place, the entire feeling of being part of Arsenal I associate with the old crest and old stadium....my best memories, I was a kid and I was watching this wonderful team with Ian Wright and Winterburn, Dixon, Adams, Seaman, Vieira, Bergkamp, and Highbury was just wonderful. I even stood in the away sections once with PAOK fanatics as a 6 year old kid scared of these big Greek fanatics, but I still adored that moment and loved experiencing that, and even with the PAOK fans you could see what being in this majestic place meant to them....Highbury was the best.

I can't believe to this day that it has gone, what a great jewel in the Arsenal crown. Emirates is awesome as a modern place but I am sorry to say it is a big commercial stadium with the name Emirates, fuck modern football and what it has done to football in england, I just feel nothing for it, Highbury is to me what Nikos Goumas is to Aek fans, if aek fans will allow me to make that comparison.

Best stadium ever to have existed.

It was a stadium for the 1960's...something which simultaneously made it special and also needed us to move to the Emirates.

You hit the nail on the head Mario...i'm afraid the new place is a soulless bowl. I feel nothing for it. I'll never forget the last ever game at Highbury. I was sitting in my seat and i didnt want to leave. Then i thought, i better leave as dad will be waiting.

Got to our usual meeting point and he wasnt there, called him and he was still in his seat in the East Stand. He was genuinely upset, the man was going since 1969. That shows you what that stadium meant to fans. After we left my old man fell out of love with going to the football and only goes occassionaly now.

Such a shame we were skint in the 80's otherwise we could've bought up the houses around the ground and redeveloped it. The modern game forced us to move.

Dont get me started on that fuckin cartoon badge gatekeeper.gif

Didn't see a topic for this so I thought i'd start one.

Really what inspired this was my trip to Stadion Strahov yesterday. I had once heard the largest stadium in the world was here in Prague however didn't get around to taking a look at it. Apart from the fact is is now only used as a training facility for Sparta Praha it once hosted concerts and back in the day gargantuan gymnastic events, yes gymnastic events!

The size of 9 football pitches it is the worlds largest stadium with a capacity of 240,000 standing and 56,000 seated. 7 regulation pitches are in use and an additional indoor (covered) pitch, the remaining area is utilised by a building structure of some kind which Sparta use as a clubhouse I suppose.

I took some fotos of it:

You can see just how HUGE this complex is from the last picture.
The stands have been abandoned, the wooden seating decaying as too the structure itself.

Nonetheless incredible to see, it really is something.
Reason for edit: Thumbnails are cool, so is performing a search...

It wasn't really a gymanstic event of the Olympic type that was held at Strahov. It was something called a Spartakiad, where thousands of people preformed an athletic routine at once accompanied by music. It was a very big event in he "socialist" days of Czechoslovakia. The only other event that I know of that was held at that stadium in those days was car and motorcycle racing.

Later on the statdium was used for huge concerts. It was at that stadium where I saw the Rolling Stones performig in 1990 in front of over 100,000 spectators.

These days its Slavia's Hockey stadium Sazka Arena (commercially known as O2 Arena) which hosts the main concert events however Eden (Slavia's Football stadium) will host Metallica in June.

Id imagine though, Strahov would've been quite the spectacle back in the day! I still cant get over the sheer size of the complex. Only the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a larger sporting facility worldwide.
