Basically the team had failed to pay players Providas and Antoniou the total of 52,000 euro. This ws the third straight week unpaid and 3rd strait week did not play, thus the law states that any team not competing for 3 successive weeksthen they must drop a division. They will now attempt to re-group with the ammateur side and once again come up to the professional ranks. We now have to wait for the 2008-2009 season to see how they have recouperated.

Doxa Drama which went bankrupt midway through last season and was demoted to amateur division merged with the C' division team Ethnikos Olympiakos Volos and will take part in the C' Division in the upcoming season.

The new official name is "GS Dramas I Doxa"

At least they did not follow in the steps of Panionios and Kavala calling themselves Nea Doxa Drama.

i was just reading about how doxa drama was founded. Some english soldiers near Drama in WW1 were playing football and convinced the locals to start a club.

laugh.gif seems like a far cry from how things happen today...back then you just told people to do something and it happened.

Doxa Dramas bought Ronnie van Es clapping.gif

The "Five Families" of New York made no attempt to move in on Velentzas operations however, as one mobster was said to have stated those "...rotten Greeks know the game so damn good they'd cheat us blind."

I didnt even realise we had a topic on Doxa, hopefully they continue their strong run and move up to second division...After making it to 3 cup finals it's a shame this team is where it is

Looks like Doxa Dramas are going up to B Ethniki biggrin.gif !
Would be fun to see a team from my city in the Superliga in a couple of years.

Wow, when is the last time they were in A Division. I remember they never fell before and once they fell they fell deep. Well I think that has a lot to do with poysties but whatever.

A lot of their losses to the big teams were due to being screwed by the refs from what I hear...especially in their cup finals with Olympiakos
