What a beast. I love the way he plays the game.

We are very fortunate to have 3 great players at the CB position.

I'd say it's more bad luck that all our good players are confined to one position.

Sokratis signs permanent deal with Werder Bremen

That's my boy. He's either smart, or dumb with a smart and convincing agent. Barring any injuries, and he plays his cards right, he will be signed to an even bigger team within 2 years.

Why isnt he in the lineup vs Bayern today???

EDIT: he is suspended due to yellow cards

What a missed opportunity to impress and Bremen is winning 1 0

goal.com:
Francois Affolter 4.5

A poor game from the defender, who was too reactive and not at all proactive. Allowed Petersen to get the better of him, and left the ball for Olic to claim. No replacement for Sokratis.

He may be a healthy scratch or else has a mild injury, otherwise he'd surely be playing against Munich.

I watched part of the game, Bremen had their chances for sure against Bayern's "B" team.

I didnt see the game but Bremen lost 3-1 to Wolfsburg. However, Goal.com rated Sokrati a team-best 6.0.

My friend Christopher Kviborg, Eurosports Sweden's main Bundesliga commentator, included Sokratis in his team of the year:

He writes the following of Papastathopoulos' season:

- "One of few truly decent players in this years Werder Bremen-side, a successfull loan deal for the Germans and perhaps Genoa is willing to release him permanently?"

No sign of Kyriakos there though, not even on the bench.

Genoa nearing relegation. Would be different with Sokrati?!

You are right Argy. Transfermarkt reports that he has signed a four year contract following Werder meeting Genoa's requirement of 3,5 mill. Good for Sokratis, as Genoa is turning into a parody. They won't go down though, as they've beaten Lecce head-to-head.

For the most part, an exceptional season from him. SPeed, physcicality, and very aggressive. He seemed to have dip in form in the past few weeks, but nonetheless, great season from him in a team that really didn't seem to offer much on a whole.

I'm hoping for a great season from him next season.

They would be one of the dominant CB pairings in Germany, dare I say Europe.

Juventus interested in Sokratis
Very interesting article--after winning this year's scudetto, Juve would certainly have the money to buy him, but I'm not so sure Werder will be willing to sell, or that it's in his best interests to leave just yet. But it may be out of his hands.

Love to get a Juventus jersey with his name on it--I already have a couple older Juve jerseys that look wicked.

The article is french but use Google translate. The original article is in English.

Wow, very impressed with Papastathopoulo's progression.. Interest from a scudetto championship team is no joke...

Give this man the captain's band for the Ethniki.

I think he would be the nr. 3 at Juve though. Chiellini and Bonucci are no jokes either. Plus he has already played at Milan, where he never really fit in. You have to be a very big player to break into an Italian top team starting eleven...

I think Werder is a good place for next season. They are very satisfied with him, he knows he has a place on the team. Let him impress another season, really be a key player to the team, and then move on to a bigger competition.

I'd love a Sokratis Juve jersey... I have my Del Piero collection, i'd LOVE to add a Greek to the mix.
