We're aiming for about 6 weeks from now, because there's a bit of disruption in between now and then, Pasxa and elections... Most likely the same two teams, but 9 vs 9, until we slowly build up to full 13 a side... A lot of work needs to be done at training though between now and then...

It's true, we have a few big lads in our team that have basically said all their lives they've been searching for a sport that suited them like this. I think it has big potential in Greece.

It's looking we're going to be playing a match Athens XIII vs Patras XIII in late May, will keep you updated....

Good for you man. I caught quite a bit of the WC last year and some of the 6 nations is shown over here on BBC America.

I hope you guys can find enough interest and funds to get this going. Greek Rugby would be epic!

Rugby Union and Rugby League are 2 completely different sports

Don't hate on Union man lol. Isn't Union waaaaaay more popular?

I don't know much about League other than it has downs like American football and players step on the ball but rugby in any form in Greece is a great thing imo.

rugby is riddled with stoppages and scrums a bit similar to NFL... League is very different... have a look at some highlights here.

What a man. Union is definitely the better sport (having played both). League doesn't require you to use a brain at all. also the worlds biggest tv sport.

Spilios why not have a quick tap in League wtf is the point of the scrum? f you're going to have scrum have a proper one

Take your Eastern Suburbs attitude and shove it Pete tongue.gif

League kills Union - Union has to be one of the worst games to watch! Doxa Drama vs Panetolikos would be more exciting to put it into persepective for you Gooni.

No way! Union way more exciting; actually a team game.

I seriously don't get the scrums though in league.. Waste of time

Me neither... if you drop the ball before the 5th tackle its a scrum.. but if you drop it on the last its a changeover... why not just do it all the time? i too think they are pointless these days. unless they change the rule that it must go in the middle like the old days and can be contested.

off topic anyways lads tongue.gif

Are you dead set? You get more excited watching Union then League? The countless scrums and occasional decent plays-runs of Union are more exciting then a League game which can provide a line break each set...

Just want to hear it in black and white terms, I was at a bar during the Rugby World Cup and we decided to check the game out as it was there... good god... they were in one batch of the field killing each other for the whole time... I was amazed at the games dullness but also the way its played... guys are just killing each other, throw the ball out and do the same thing... well that’s how I saw it laugh.gif

It's looking we're going to be playing a match Athens XIII vs Patras XIII in late May, will keep you updated....

Well better late than never, we played the match today, final scrore: Promitheas 26-12 Patra

The Patrans had a few last minute injuries and only managed to bring 11 players. So unfortunately we did 11 vs 11, 60 minute match and shortened the field a bit. Kick off was 17:00 (so that the Patra boy could get the last bus home), so we played in 36° heat, it was pretty brutal.

That will bet it now until after summer. We'll train probably until the end of July, have a break in August, get back into it in September then hopefully play the next match down in Patra in October. Photos will be up in the coming days....
