You know your stuff Hellas.
Is there any Greek talent coming through? I seem to recall a youngster called Thomas coming through in Australia who considered playing for Cyprus but then nothing! |

^He actually did play for Cyprus for a little, but he switched back to Australia. He hasn't lived up to his potential.
There are others. Dimitris Kleftakos from Germany also played the junior slams and he even switched to Greece and played Davis Cup in 2009, but the Greek federation lied to him and promised him things that they wouldn't and couldn't give him since they have no money, so he switched back to Germany and then he got injured (karma?) and hasn't played in about 10 months. Theres a guy Evthimios Karaliolios from the Netherlands who played the junior slams but only his dad is Greek and he was born in the Netherlands so I doubt he was gonna play for Greece anyways, but he was promising and hasn't played in about 9 months. Theres a guy Nikita Kryvonos from USA who played the junior slams but apparently he's Ukrainian (?) Anyways he isn't that promising anymore. Then there's Paris Gemouchidis from Greece. He played junior slams and made the Orange Bowl final, which is basically the Junior World Championships, as important as the junior grand slams. He slumped for a few years, but now he's back on track. In fact, on Monday he became the Greek #1 for the first time! He's still only 22. And of course Alexandros Georgoudas. He was born in Thessaloniki and lived there until he was 15, and then he moved to Germany for better training. And what happens? He swtiches nationality and plays under the German flag. How crazy! He lived in Greece for his whole life and then switches to Germany? I guess it isn't so bad since his mom is German even though his dad was Greek and they lived in Thessaloniki. He played the junior slams and even reached the 2009 Australian Open junior final. He hit with Roger Federer there and Roger said some nice words about his future. In an interview after the AO, he said that he was possibly considering playing for Greece. However, he hasn't really done much in the past few years. So basically we've had talented juniors who never lived up to their potential. There are other Greek born players like Vasilis Mazarakis, Nikos Rovas, Eleftherios Alexiou, etc. who never lived up to their potential, but they are older anyways. And there's a guy, I don't remeber his name, but he is the only Greek to beat Federer, but he beat him when they were teenagers, so it's a little different. Also there's a Greek-Aussie Nick Kyrgios who plays in the junior slams. I'm pretty confident that in 5-10 years we will have some solid top 100-200 players as there are many guys who have that potential. The ones listed above can all do it, as well as Kapogiannis, Glezos, Mikos, Kalovelonis, etc. No top 20 players, but a solid group of pros Sorry to write so much but I'm a little bored today And I'm sure you've heard of Economidis and Mazarakis? PS-I'm not sure if you care, but the women have tons of talented players who can make the top 20, especially Papamichail, Fulop, and Grammatikopoulou, but also possibly Sakkari, Vogasari, and Kairi -------------------- "You don't have to be perfect, but you have to try very hard, and I did all the time"

Greece sent down to Europe/Africa Group III after losing to Monaco 2-3 in the relegation play-off. Pretty unfair since we were so close and we had to play such a tough team like Monaco. I also think that we should've chosen hard instead of clay, and we probably would've won if we did that. But we did really well and it could've gone either way and unfortunately it went Monaco's way
And it fucking sucks because Monaco's team is all French players that Monaco bought  But Cyprus won the relegation play-off 3-2 at Bulgaria. They were really lucky that Bulgaria was without their #1 player, Grigor Dimitrov aka Baby Federer, but I can't complain. World Group QF: Serbia 4-1 Sweden Argentina 5-0 Kazakhstan Spain 3-1 USA France 4-1 Germany SF: ARG @ SRB FRA @ ESP From now on, any of these teams can win! -------------------- "You don't have to be perfect, but you have to try very hard, and I did all the time"

Scores after day 1:
World Group SF: ARG 2-0 SRB Djokovic didn't play and now Serbia will suffer. He'll play on Sunday but it could be too late. ESP 2-0 FRA Spain is lucky that France's #1, Monfils isn't playing due to injury and their #2, Tsonga is in Spain but wasn't chosen to play for some strange reason... World Group Play-Offs: CZE 2-0 ROU Romania is at home, on clay, but without their #1, Hanescu, they have no one else in the top 100 and the Czechs have 2 in the top 25. BRA 1-1 RUS Davydenko not playing. This could get ugly if Youzhny continues his bad form. God, I can't believe Russia is so close to relegation... CAN 1-1 ISR Strange day as it was expected to be 1-1, but the players who were expected to win (Sela for ISR and Raonic for CAN) both lost. CRO 1-1 RSA Ljubicic pulled out last minute and Karlovic didn't committ. SA can pull off the upset and they have home court advantage. ITA 2-0 CHI Gonzalez and Massu have been injured all year and are completely out of form. IND 0-2 JPN Japan are in control and I actually expected India to take this... AUT 1-1 BEL Should be 2-0 for Austria, but somehow Melzer lost his singles match today AUS 1-1 SUI Tomic beat Wawrinka and Federer beat Hewitt... -------------------- "You don't have to be perfect, but you have to try very hard, and I did all the time"

^Cyprus won!!!!!
World Group QFs Set: Spain-Austria France-USA Serbia-Czech Republic Croatia-Argentina Russia should've beaten Austria. So many stupid decisions in the lineup for Russia. They sat Youzhny and Davydenko for Bogomolov and Kunitsyn. What a joke. They actually bothered to show up and got benched. Then they both got to play doubles and beat a very strong Austrian duo in 5 sets and then still weren't chosen to play the second day of singles after that! -------------------- "You don't have to be perfect, but you have to try very hard, and I did all the time"

Don't worry. I doubt Djokovic would show up. Ever since he became a superstar after Serbia won in 2010 he doesn't give a shit even though he pretends to...He used to be one of my favorites but I've lost a lot of respect for him because his success made him very arrogant. He is just like Nadal, all fake and shit but he pretends to be a good guy and pretends that he cares about his country more than anything...

A Baghdatis-less Cypriot team lost 3-0 at Ukraine. Even with him they had no shot.

Lithuania leads Cyprus 2-1. Very impressive that Cyprus is hanging in there without Marcos.
