i just thought i'd start a topic to gather a list of people in and around the boston area who might be interested in forming a team and travelling to chicago some summer to play in the soccer tournament. i know there are plenty of greeks around in boston, so i'm hoping you'll all come swarming out of the woodwork now and let me know, by posting in this topic, that you're interested in being a part of this would-be team.

so most of you are probably wondering who the hell i am. my name is george. i'm 19 and i go to school at boston college, but i'm home in western massachusetts for the summer. i played soccer six years in school, playing every position (GK/DF/MF/FW) at some point in those six years, and i coached a youth team for one year. and i'd just really like to see about getting a team of us boston greeks to go represent and have a good time at future hellenic soccer tournaments.

if you like this and you're interested in being a part of this team, go ahead and post right here in this topic. some helpful information would be your age, whereabouts you live, (boston or the surrounding area) also perhaps your soccer experience (even if you don't have any, i encourage you to post still if you are interested in this team) and any preference of position on the pitch. again, i'm not going to be in boston for the summer, but once the fall comes, i will be in the area and would definitely be interested in scheduling pickup games or training or get-togethers as a team with an eye towards a trip to chicago in a couple years wink.gif

that said, even if you don't want to make the trip to chicago at all but are still a greek and a soccer maniac living in or around boston, go ahead and post here, the more manges we have around even just for pickup games, the merrier laugh.gif

gentlemen, i am posting again to say that i'll be moving back to the boston area within the next two weeks. i see still that none of you boston greeks have posted yet. if there is no interest in making a team, well, alright. then i won't post again. but i just thought i'd say that i'm still around and that i'm still interested in forming a team, if you guys are down.

also thought i'd share a story. i was going back to school from my service placement, it must have been around 9 pm one monday or wednesday night some time this past april. i'm waiting for my train at government center, and i'm waiting there wearing my PAOK jersey. wouldn't you know it, a guy comes up to me, he asks if i'm greek and if i know about PAOK! lol. so i tell him of course i am, and yes i do. he was there with some family, they were looking at schools in boston i guess. he was with two people who looked like they could have been his brother and sister, but i am not sure exactly what their relation to him was. he was so amazed to see a PAOK supporter in boston that we took a picture. unfortunately i never got the guy's name or anything because in a matter of seconds, my train had come and i had to leave.

so basically, if there are greeks FROM GREECE that you can find in boston, i'm sure there are plenty of other local greeks who could come together to form a soccer team. παμε ρε μαγκες!

it appears that there is just no interest in making a team. there are so many of us in boston, I think we could probably build ourselves a decent team and represent in chicago pretty well in a year or two. i was looking forward to making up a team of greeks from our city, but at this rate, if i am ever to play in the tournament it will have to be for a different team and not one from my city. that's a little disappointing, considering there are so many greek soccer fanatics in the area...

Dude,

There are Greek teams in Boston. I know I've heard of Boston Olympiakos. Google them and get in touch. I tried to organize a team from Baltimore a few years back and its much harder than you might suspect. I already run a competitive mens team with Greeks on it but after we've paid all our league fees and Cup fees and referee fees, etc. here in Baltimore, the lads just don't want to try to scrounge up the money to travel to another city for a tournament. I don't know how these other teams do it (a lot of them seem to be from Chicago and areas near Chicago).

But I still think your best bet is to find established greek amatuer greek teams and work with them. Start with Boston Olympiakos and work from there.

Good luck.

@ 'trekse giorgos!'

Hey, i'd definitely be interested.

Except none of this PAOK crap...more like AEK Boston...smile.gif

Also, there are a few teams around here but there level of commitment and travel is more than I would want to do, plus the teams aren't really greek if that's what you are looking for, just a huge mix. I've played indoor with Boston Olympiakos, and there is Hellenic who used to have youth teams I played for, Hellas Utd or something, and Medford Uth that wears a shirt with PAOK on it which I played a game with. They play in the amateur leagues in Mass and Olympiakos makes it to the Open Cup as well.
