So I guess it's back to Smith

Smith is no guarantee anymore my friend

If we lose out on Smith, the decision to go after manning, especially considering we never had the money available to sign him in the first place, will be one of the most collosal errors in franchise history....

The guy (Smith) after being benched, shit-on and ridiculed for 7 seasons has his best year last year, helping the team get within a fumble of the SB, and the longest play-off run in almost 20 years is further shit on by the team by checking out a Manning we were never gonna sign.... way too show confidence in Smith 9ers thumbs.gif

I hate to say 'i told you so' (not to you Giourka, but in general), but this was a mistake from the beginning, and ive believed this from the start. Smith is our guy, and we may have just fucked him off.... Harbaugh better go mend things with Smith immediately with red carpets, champagne and caviar.... otherwise, get ready for a mediocre season next year with kaepernick behind centre.

A potential disaster we have on our hands..... and for what?

A 'shot' at a choker who doesnt have one ounce of 'Niner' in him?

All i know is if I am A.Smith, my contract demands just went up considerably....

For me, this whole fiasco is the first strike against Harbaugh/Baalke imo..... the minute you guys decided to publically show interest in Manning, you had to sign him.... and you couldnt/didnt

Now we have a disguntled Smith who isnt under contract....

What a fucking disaster...... Thanks for ruining my day thumbs.gif

From your link -

....don?t be surprised if Colin Kaepernick is the starting quarterback in San Francisco come September.

On the bright side, hes probs better than Tebow....

In the end I bet you guys just end up paying Smith whatever he wanted and he stays on. He knows the 9ers are his best chance to win and the 9ers are now forced to find a starting QB. The only way I see this not happening is if Harbaugh believes he can get the same sort of production out of someone else.

^^Harbaugh has a huge task of putting 'humpty-dumpty' back together again though.... Like i said a page or two back, the damage to Smiths ego was done the minute we worked out manning... It was stupid to even entertain the idea of signing Manning when we never had the money in the first place... I hope some of you can see now why i was so against this, and all it has done is create distress between the club and its true QB

As for Smith, The Niners have already offered him a 3 yr/24 millin contract.... The balls in his court....

With manning a done deal, there is no better QB availble for our situation than Smith.... If we dont get that done, Kaepernicks the guy, and a colossal error will have been made.....

Just to clear something RS, the 3 year 24 Million dollar offer has been on the table for a long time. Smith was the one that procrastinated... While the 49ers were waiting, signing Moss and co, Manning reached out to management. Baalke could not ignore the possibility of signing a four time MVP considering the fact that your starting QB was taking his sweet ass time to make a decision...

^^I hope that makes us feel better if kaepernick is our starter next year my friend.

My opinion was, and still is that A.Smith should have been our guy 1000% from the second negotiations opened for a renewal.... We were never going to sign manning (we didnt have the cap space), and the fact we showed interest was a slap to smith.....

As for the contract, Free agency period was only one week or so old when the Manning story broke.... but yes, i wish hed signed on right away too.

Anyways, regardless if Smith signs back or not (and i am still hopefull he will), this was handled extremely poorly imo....

Proxorame kai blepoume....no use in crying over spilt milk... lets just hope this turns out for the best thumbs.gif

being that Manning and Smith have the same agent, I'm sure it's all good and we along with the media, are making a bigger deal than it is! Smith wants to win and we're in the position to give him a ring..he had a great season but repeating it will be a very difficult task...gia na doume ti tha doume...

Wou will never win the superbowl with Smith at starting qb. Same with Denver and Tebow. Great run for both of them but that is about it. Both John Elway and Bryan Xanders knew it and that is why Denver signed Manning. Like it or not.. Denver today has a great shot at winning it with Manning on board and thats the bottom line win or lose for Denver. Salary cap or whatever the reason, i am so happy Manning did not sign with the 9ers because San Fransico would be the next dynasty to dominate football for quite a few years to come. Thank god it never hapenned and keep playing Smith! laugh.gif

Report: Alex Smith re-signs with 49ers
By CAM INMAN

It took a week into free agency and a red-eye visit to the Miami Dolphins, but quarterback Alex Smith appears to officially be returning to the 49ers as of late Tuesday afternoon.

The NFL Network reported that Smith and the 49ers have agreed to terms on a new contract.

It also took a few awkward turns, including the 49ers' covert courting of Peyton Manning. But now Smith's topsy-turvy union with the 49ers resumes, a tenure that began in 2005 as the No. 1 overall draft pick out of Utah.

Last season, Smith produced a career-best year upon coach Jim Harbaugh's arrival, helping the lead the 49ers to a 14-4 overall record, the NFC West title and a berth in the NFC Championship Game.

On Sunday, Smith took a red-eye flight to Fort Lauderdale, spent six hours at the Dolphins facility and reportedly entered into contract negotiations with the AFC East doormat.

On Monday, 49ers CEO Jed York reiterated the company line: "We have a contract on the table and it's up to him. We'd like for him to be here and we'll see where it goes."

Rather that interfere, York said he would let Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke solve the 49ers' quarterback quandary.

Smith returns to a quarterback unit that includes Colin Kaepernick and Scott Tolzien, last season's rookie backups.

Looking to join that mix is former Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup Josh Johnson, an Oakland native who was coached by Harbaugh at the University of San Diego.

"It's a great organization and they were a great team last year, so most definitely I would," Johnson said of the 49ers in a phone interview from his home in Tampa.
Johnson said the 49ers have been in contact with his agent, Adam Heller, and that a visit to the 49ers facility could occur this week, as well as one to the Washington Redskins. Heller did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Johnson thought his visit to the 49ers could be contingent upon Smith's status. Regardless, Johnson is interested in coming home to the Bay Area, having grown up in Oakland and attended Oakland Tech High School.

"Yeah, if it's the right situation," Johnson said. "No matter where you go, there'll be competition. You have to hope a team gives you the best opportunity to put your best foot forward. The 49ers, they came within a quarter (or overtime) of the Super Bowl."

Last week, Peyton Manning emerged as a 49ers candidate until he opted Monday for the Denver Broncos.

"When the two of us started to talk, I very easily could have seen myself being a 49er," Manning told the NFL Network. "That's why it was so hard."

Manning's move prompted brief speculation that 2011 Broncos phenom Tim Tebow could be on the 49ers' radar. "Tebow's not coming here," York said Tuesday.

Asked to comment on the 49ers quarterback situation Tuesday morning as he left the facility, Baalke replied: "Later. I've got to get to a meeting. I'm in a hurry."

As it turns out, Baalke has Smith back in his quarterback stable, the latest step in a busy March that's included the arrival of receiving targets Randy Moss and Mario Manningham. The 49ers also kept their entire starting defense intact, preventing the free-agency escape of cornerback Carlos Rogers, linebacker Ahmad Brooks and safety Dashon Goldson, the later of whom has been given the franchise tag of $6.2 million.

Nothing is 100% a sure thing RS... (remember your SB guarantees?) Yes I would have loved Manning on my team, but to say we have 0 chance at the SB is ridiculous... We have one hell of a strong squad that kept the League's best D intact, and added great weapons on offense... After all, we were 2 fumbles away from beating you in the SB... tongue.gif

As for Manning in Denver, good luck to him with that weak ass D and average receiving corps... The fact that he elected to go to a less loaded team tells me he's more in it for the cash than to win another ring...

49ers Sign QB Smith to 3-Year Deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed QB Alex Smith to a three-year deal through the 2014 season.

“We are pleased that Alex has chosen to continue his career as a 49er,” said 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke. “His contributions were instrumental to our success in 2011, and we look forward to the continued growth of our offense under his leadership.”

Manningham Agrees to Two-Year Deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed WR Mario Manningham to a two-year deal.

"We are very pleased to add a player like Mario to our team," said 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke. "Although it is still early in his NFL career, he is a productive wide receiver with a lot of big game experience. He will be a nice compliment to our current wide receiver group and a good fit for our offensive system.”
