If Antonis wants to improve and become a great player he has to immediately get out of Shitney FC

looks like olyroos wont be going to the Olympics....

are not able to get past the first stage of a group that includes footballing minnows Iraq,UAE,Uzbekistan....
the time has come to rid ourselves of this ridiculous notion of "we always produce good players" or "things are improving"..

talking ourselves into a false sense of achievement by believing foxtel ratings rants or being mislead by a handful of MV home crowd numbers,is absolute head in the sand stuff..

the achievement of squads in the late 1990s and leading up to 2006 "success" - can be attributed to the individual brilliance of a handful of players and a great team spirit and competitive approach..

cahill,kewell,viduka,schwarzer,culina,aloisi,Moore....supported by muscat,bresciano,grella,chipperfield....are one in a generation..

lets not forget there was a roll of talent from the late 1980s...and 1990s...with okon, zelic, patikas, arnold, slater, krncevic, mori, markovski, bosnich, vidmar, veart,lo
zanovski etc....these guys excelled at Youth WC and olympics ..
the new era gets hammered in last two Youth WC...and olyroos have not scored in 4 matches against "powerhouses" Iraq,uae,Uzbekistan...

something is clearly wrong.....

This shows how bad the "HAL" system is... very limited amount of young talents playing in the Top flight and the Skips are going to go through a period of mediocricy for some time IMO.

Look at Victoria... a great player at 16 goes to Heart and Victory... Sounds great hey... they train their for how many years get some appearances but do they think they will actually do anything great with their career? How often is a Terry Andonis gona come along?
You can be a great player in Oz but playing at state league level to get game time, you wont be ready for International level and unless you go overseas and smash it your fighting for limited spots in A-League teams.

The system is set up for failure and ironically FFA are the ones to point the finger at, they dont want real football clubs part of the system down under, sucked in. They can keep hoping their only looked at as "development" clubs but they have no idea about the big picture but results will speak for themselves and ill have a smile on my face as they come in tbh.

good game last night, the Saudis had it and then were pumped within 3 mins... unbelievable turn around... australia were too good in the end, the real test is in the next phase of qualifying... Whgere was Valeri, Cahill etc...?

Bresciano was a class above, top player and Kewell is actually playing well for once

Great game the other night!!

25k in at AAMI Park, the place was pumping. About 1.5k-2k Saudi fans in the away bay too, looked really good. Bresciano played a great game and it looks like Brosque is improving now he's playing in Japan.

I'd rather go to see lesser teams like Saudi Arabia/China/UAE at AAMI Park than watch us play Spain/Brazil/Germany at the MCG.

Socceroos playing Japan tomorrow night.

Personally not that confident, with the teams that Holger has been picking...

We were poor against Oman but got a decent result, the heat was a factor but not an excuse. I fear us qualifying for the World Cup and getting embarassed with a backline of North, Neil, Ogenovski, Carney...dear Lord.

Better team would be (4-3-3): Schwarzer/Langerak; Wilkshire, Spiranovic, Milligan/Williams, Zullo; Paartalu/Cahill, Holman, McKay; Kruse, Kennedy, Rukavytsa

Bench/Fringe/Other: Herd, Nichols, Troisi, Sarota...Burns, MacDonald, Oar

Not that confident at all.

Japan good value in the betting market, they're paying 3.20. They've got some very good players coming through.

Not happy with Holger's selections, need to be focussing more on the future. We've got too many players in their 30s no longer playing in good European leagues.

The likes of; Oar, Davidson, Herd, Rukavytsya, Lowry, Williams, Ryan, Langerak, Leckie, McGowan, etc.. need to be getting more of an opportunity.

1-1, great result. Japan have a much better side.

Without a doubt the WORST display of refereeing I think I've ever seen. Worse than the Greece-Poland referee. He was fucking atrocious.

Australia were beaten 2-1 away to Jordan this morning - and by all reports were outplayed at times - with Jordan deserving the result.

This has to be worst result in recent memory considering Osiek had a full squad to pick from.

Just shows how far downhill the quality of players coming through has gone since the A League started.

One of the goals Lucas "Way past my prime but the rest are so shit I still get selected" Neil

was schooled by a Jordanian forward who looked like Neymar against him..

Still waiting for Brett Holman to carry the team when needed but it seemes doesnt have the arhidia for it...

Cahill cant do it on his own any longer

Bresciano is the only creative player on the team unfortunatley the guy is 35 now and starting to show his age

Matt Mckay not even good enough to play at Rangers was crap very crap

David Carney seriously WTF ???

As for the strikers when you need to bring on 33 yr old HAL star Archie to get your goal then you know your struggling up front

Robbie Kruse - IMHO has always been over rated - and has never been a good finisher EVER

Alex Brosque - cannot handle pressure which is why he never made it in europe

From the whole team

Schwarzer Bresciano , Cahill , Holman , Wilkshire - are the only half decent players... and apart from 2 are all way past their best as well..and are still better than what is coming through...

Terrible performance, one of the worst I've ever seen from the socceroos.

We haven't been able to replace our players from 06', simple as that.

Holger doesn't have the cattle so hard to place too much blame on him, but he also needs to be more proactive about playing more young players. Carney starting left back ahead of Davidson (playing Eredivisie), you serious? No Chris Herd yet again? Lowry? Oar? Leckie?

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/250438,berg...h-coaching.aspx

CCM and Newcastle starting to invest and improve upon their youth development, need more clubs to follow suit. New TV deal will bring a little more financial stability so hopefully clubs spend it wisely.

Simple, in 06 we gave a fuck.

Today we dont. Thirty years from the beginning of the A league and Australian football will start coming good under this model, but I can see them restructuring things at youth level which means that they are unlikely to achieve much.

30 years is a long time to realise the model does not work..

and this is the key..the model is one that no other football nation uses...nor has it ever been proven to work anywhere.
