yes you need some quality players in the team, but you also need a coach who knows what he is doing, gunder bengston came in and destroyed panathinaikos and turned the team into a brothel, with the same players daniil had with which he knocked out auxerre, juve ,honvend and put 4 past osfp.
markarian came in twice and turned things around instantly, and we bacame a threat in europe when his predecessors had the team playing like pelopas kiatou .
the coaching position for panathinaikos is crucial to the team doing well,bakke,malesani,peseiro,bengston,10cate,and even sandos never had any business being first team coaches of pao.
gmoch, daniil, rocha and marakarian were top coaches who got results in europe against bigger teams with star players, because they outcoached their opposing coaches, they won the games from the bench, and would devise tactics especially for the opposition , daniil wiped ian rush out of two games when he placed a untried and untested 18 year old to man mark him, that player was kalitzakis.
we cannot afford to have the wrong coach on the bench, but having said that, when you do have a winning coach, who has proven that he can win and play good football ,like daniil, and gmoch, you dont sack them soon as the team goes through a bit of slump, every football team goes through a slump during the season, chelsea have lost 2 in a row are they going to sack their coach?
when you have a winning coach, you let him work his way out of the slump, and he will, you dont sack him.
imagine what marakarian could of accomplished or daniil for that matter if they had the team for 4-5 seasons straight and were allowed to bring in the players they wanted.

I would rather have Giatsek on the bench against Barca for many reasons, and although i may not be a fan of Fereira, since we have nothing yet from him to admire or critic, that concerns his days in Panathinaikos, i prefer he is not thrown within 3 days in the lions...

Ok he looks brave, wanting to coach this club against Barca, but inside the Roman Arena that is the Greek championship, it's too damn early to get his first blood now...

They can call it as they like, but since we demand from Fereira the Title, the least we can do is protect him, from the Barcelona annihilation, cause it will be a massacre nonetheless....He can give his decisions to the ones that will be on the bench, but he doesn't deserve to witness this humiliation...Fair is fair...this is not fair for him, to start with a 0-X who knows defeat...

PS: I am being sentimental, maybe because i vowed for Bielsa, i feel guilty, and i don't like to see our new Coach torn with a bad defeat as a start..

Ferreira asked to learn his first Greek word today .. "NIKH"

I am starting to really believe in this guy just by the look on his face when he was watching us against Iraklis, noticing our faults, abilities, putting together ideas and writing down notes on paper.

He has already said that he can do a lot of work with the team and believes in success.

He wants the title badly and I hope he can put together a plan to win it.

this guy looks like he has character and the balls to do what is necessary to win. even if that means upsetting certain players...which is good. people better not judge him harshly after the barce game because that would be pathetic...and i say this now because i know some will try to

Jesualdo, welcome to Panathinaikos!

You have our full support.................

..........until a few bad results go bad. Then look out sunshine because your own fans will end your career quicker than you can say "Xristodoulopoulos".

I am a little apperhensive about writing this after noticing that after paotrealla's post this thread had 666 views. blink.gif

Fereira began training the lads and just like that, in his first day, Boumsong arrived half-hour late. Hey, no problem. He understands that mix-ups can happen. That's why he now expects everyone to report one hour early for practice.

He also noticed that players ate their breakfast right before practice, so he made a new rule: eat breakfast 1.5 hours before practice. http://www.sport.gr/default.asp?pid=4&aid=79895

As for his assistants, this page says they are (Νούνο Εσπίριτο, Ζοσέ Γκόμες και Ρούι Σίλβα) (Nuno Espirito, Jose Gomes, and Rui Silva). The PAO web site does not have their names but it does have Alexoudi as a goalkeepers coach, Eben as conditioning coach.

I wrote this somewhere a few days ago that these guys would be kept

I dont think Ferreira has a GK coach or Fitness coach, but that the 3 guys with him are just plain assistants possibly some having knowledge in attacking parts of the game and others in defensive parts

I'm not sure why so many people on here are so apprehensive about us hiring Jesualdo as our new manager. He's got a much better CV than any of the other managers we've hired in the past; leading Porto to three in a row along with some good Champions League performances. Look how his CV compares to that of Nioplias', HTC's, Munoz's, Peseiro's etc. Ferriera is a definite upgrade!

All the best Jesualdo, you'll need it!!

I'd like to see Mitropoulos try some of his bullshit with Nuno Espirito. He'll have to drink his meals with a straw once that guy is done with him laugh.gif

GayFM's latest article is reporting that Jesualdo for now is going to run the same 4-2-3-1 formation. He's going to move Katsouranis back to CM and play Marinos as the RW with Lazaros on the left and Capt. Cisse up front.

I like the idea of Marinos because he is a player who can do a lot of running and put Barca under some pressure high up the field. I'm not sure I like the idea of a Gilberto/Katsouranis combo in midfield for this exact same reason. Gilberto is simply too slow now and good luck getting Katsourani to do any running or pressing for more than a few seconds at a time.
