He's starting to remind me of Macheda, he scored a few goals and looked good bur Fergurson just expected him to magically develop without ever playing him and now he can't even impress at QPR. Hopefully Vellios will get a loan move next year or he'll never develop.

Macheda had to compete with Berbatov, Nani, and Rooney: the Italian didn't stand a chance of keeping a place, which is a shame.
Vellios strikes me as a work in progress, the kind of player Moyes wanted to mold into his single forward system. It's a very demanding role and I think Moyes found the best player he'll ever get for it on Everton's budget in Denis. Vellios doesn't have much of a future any more at that club. He needs experience and he won't get the kind he needs at Everton anymore. Vellios shouldn't look to stay in the EPL if his time with Everton is over. If he, like Macheda has done, decides to play for a lesser side (that just got promoted, for example), he'll be even worse off than he was at Everton (he'll be getting long balls all game, and he'll have his confidence sucked out by losing almost all the time). He's a player with technical ability, so he needs the ball played at his feet, too, and I suspect his game will suffer otherwise. Frankly, I don't think Everton can make proper use of him, he holds more potential than he can ever realize playing in Moyes' one striker system (the same is true of any forward, save for Heskey types). Once the experience is there and once he has realized his potential, he can contemplate a return to the EPL. That said, he shouldn't forget Jelavic's experience and Denis' initial struggles, if ever decide to make a return. The EPL is the best league in the world, so he should be proud of himself so far. |

Dunno about Macheda's ability to play with his back to goal but what I've seen from Vellios he plays with strength and can do well for himself back to goal. As such I think a long ball team wouldn't be a horrible thing for him.
I think he could do fine at a lesser club. Its unfortunate that Everton didn't loan him. If he went to a promotion candidate and scored some goals it would do wonders for his confidence and would probably get him a decent transfer away from Everton. He's got the ability... right now its all about perseverance with him. He needs to keep working at it and if not Everton then he will get his shot elsewhere. -------------------- ![]() |

^^ Good on him.
15 games, 3 goals. Not a bad season. A lot of opportunity dried up when Jelavic was signed - who has done brilliantly since signing from Rangers. Hope Vellios gets in the Euro squad. |

Haha Everton must have shit youngsters. I hope he moves or gets loaned out. He's proven he can score in the PL so he doesn't deserve to be stuck in their reserves.

Hope Vellios gets in the Euro squad. 15 appearances, most of which were under 10 minutes. Everton didn't score too many goals before Jelavic came around and oddly enough, before the new year he was their top scorer. I think he should have been given more minutes this year, but he's young and has a bright future ahead of him. |

Vellios will probably get a few more shots at scoring but not while Jelavic is scoring--they finished higher than Liverpool this season! He's young, I'd fight for a place on the squad.

I recall his 1st goal was against Wigan with his back to goal he laid it off, ran into the box, found space then finshed off with a classy header to give Everton the lead 2-1 ...
The other one I remember was another classy finish against Chelsea having just come on. Everton lost 2-1. Key points 1. He shows great poise / quality for someone so young. What is he 18? He's still a teenager. 2. He likes Moyes and being at Everton, despite limited opportunities. The 2nd point is more important as it shows he has the maturity to understand his predicament, that he needs to work hard to develop his game and not just rely on his natural talent. With Gekkas/Charisteas at the end of their careers the timing couldn't be better ... -------------------- It's easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you're a winner, when you're number one. What you got to have is faith and discipline when you're not a winner.

2. He likes Moyes and being at Everton, despite limited opportunities. Very important for a young player. He can only win with this type of attitude unlike that krease Lukaku at Chelsea giving stick to AVB. -------------------- ![]() |

Very interesting stuff he says about Everton. He believes he will get more chances next season and that Moyes is a serious coach that has a programme for young players. He trusts Everton.

Even with his goal, not great things being said about the lad by some Everton supporters in the article and a bunch of comments underneath... Hoping he proves these scumbags wrong soon and in spectacular fashion, which I know he can do. Time to silence these fucks. |

Yea I saw that yesterday but I thought I'd just stir up hate against the English if I posted it. It's all nonsense, how can a guy who averages a goal every 90 minutes at the age of 19 not be PL standard?. It's weird because before Christmas last year they all rated him.
Anyway a loan move to a relegation candidate or championship club is best. He's not gonna get a look in, especially if they sign Owen. |
