We played some great defense in the 3rd quarter. Too bad we conceded one in the end.

Here we go:

1. Montenegro - 8
2. Romania - 6
3. Greece - 4
4. Germany - 4
5. FYROM - 2
6. Holland - 0

Basically we need to beat Holland tomorrow and Montenegro to beat Romania and we finish second.

Tomorrow we will smoke Netherlands.. nothing is stopping us now after these solid performances. Losing to Romania (10-9)and powerhouse Montenegro (8-7)by only a goal.. smoking Fyrom (12-2) and now defeating a very solid Germany (11-9) were back were we belong amongst the elite of the world.

This team is the best team we had since 2004-2008 era.. only player missing is Doskas because of injury. We should be very proud of them. Just awesome defense from Hellas again today awesome! Knowing all these teams.. looking at the other division only Spain is tough and we can beat them we are very evenly matched with them. As for Canada is playing at home but Greece is stronger. Both Brazil and Argentina are just shit. Turkey should not even be there. Lets finish 2nd in our group and face Brazil and qualify to the Olympics. Tomorrow big game versus Netherlands.

I would be so happy to see both Greece and Canada qualify.

A huge success to the team is the return of keeper Deligiannis. He makes a huge difference in nets, gives courage, guides the team on defense and on attack.. yells out the shot clock on our power plays and makes the big saves. This guy is a pure rage and love the guy. He`s all heart and just brings this team to an even bigger level thumbs.gif

I did mention the loss of Doskas for this tourney.. key player of the team but Chatzitheodorou is back to the national team to give a hand. In 2012 the following old core of elite players returned back to the national team:

Georgios Afroudakis captain euro 2012
Deligiannis current 2012 olympic qualification
Theodoropoulos euro 2012
Chatzitheodorou current 2012 olympic qualification
Voulgarakis euro 2012
Kokkinakis euro 2012

these six so called old core of our elite players have made an impact night and day with these following elite players we have:

Doskas
Mourikis
Delacas
Fountoulis
Christos Afroudakis
Miralis

We are beating the Dutch 5-1 at halftime. Looks like an easy afternoon for the national team.

Mine played good.

14:5 the final score.

It now remains to be seen if Montenegro defeats Romania so we can claim the 2nd place.

Either way we avoid playing Spain in the quarters.

Awesome result.. great defense solid performance from Hellas. Its great to see us playing they way we are.. its really a shame the players walked out years ago from the team. I read in some reports that some money was owned to the players by the federation that never paid them? Burned their bridges and the golden generation that won bronze in Montreal walked. Ziaka can you confirm this? Its such a shame the national team since 2008 olympiad played with its b team sometimes c team in all major competitions. That said all this is in the past, we look to the future and the team is playing world class water polo again. Its just awesome.

Well we still might end up playing Spain. FYROM messed things up for us. They beat Germany and got 4th place. That means there is no 3-way tie between us, Romania and Germany. Since we lost to Romania they won the tie-breaker. We finish 3rd in our group and will place the second place team from the other group. That team will be decided in the Spain - Canada game which is played right now. The score is 2:2 in the first quarter.

Spain defetaed Canada 9:5. Here are the quartefinal matchups:

14:00 Montenegro - Turkey
15:30 Romania - Brazil
17:00 Greece - Canada
18:30 FYROM - Spain

Times are Edmonton local time.

Too bad as Brazil would have been an easier opponent. Now we have to defeat Canada who play at home.

Ziaka - watched the Spain/Canada game. It wasnt easy for Spain but they defeated Canada. Greece can defeat Spain so they can definitely defeat Canada.. a weaker but very improved opponent. Germany was the surprise of the day.. losing and going into elimination. Shows you how serious and mentaly prepared in waterpolo you have to be for every game. Greece will have to defeat Canada the home team to qualify for the Olympics and if they lose tomorrow then they do not deserve to be there its as simple as that. That said, I am confident that Greece will come through and win they have too much depth, experience and are the better team but they have to prove it in the pool.

I wish I had a chance to see these games. Looks like we will qualify as Canada is not at our level. Like I said I have not seen any games but from what it looks like we are still just slightly back from the major powerhouses like Serbia and Hungary. Am I correct?
