Since my 'Skins just made the biggest off-season splash by trading for the Rams 2nd overall pick in this years draft, and with Free Agency just around the corner I thought it would be a good idea to get this thread going.

Obviously the next biggest story is where is Peyton heading? Denver, KC, and Miami seem to be the finalists.

good job. i was actually thinking about opening up a similar thread.

i cant believe it took THAT much to move up 4 spots. you better hope they make some nice fa additions that pan out for rg3. dont know what the skins' salary cap sitaution looks like but v jackson could be a nice addition to help out rg3. god knows the skins need a wr.

as for manning, i think the miami story is overblown. ross is a moron and a really wierd dude overall. he wants the dolphins to be the equivalent of the LA lakers of football with celebrities etc and i dont think manning wants any part of that. and that's not even considering the fact that he'd be playing his last few years in the nfl in the same division with brady/pats and the jets, making the road to the playoffs extremely tough.

i think denver, arizona, and kansas city have the best shot imo. personally, i think kc makes the most sense for him. good young team, great wr/te options, good defense, solid rb. denver wouldnt be bad either but they'd have to figure out what to do with jesus.

I dont think Peyton will got to a 'bad weather/outdoor' city if he can help it.

I think Arizona is his most likely destination.... easy division with no elite QBs, and imo the best reciever in the game (Fitzgerald).

If he really wanted to stick it to Indy, and ive heard this thrown out as a longshot, is Houston. A 100% Manning on Houston, and they are automatically a favorite to reach the SB. He gets a greeat supporting cast, 9 indoor games, plus another 3 (at least) in nice weather....

It's definitely more than I wanted to give up but I really don't think we had any other option. We had to make a big time move and this is definitely one. We do have plenty of cap space though and Vincent Jackson seems like one of our prime targets, Shanahan has always liked him.

Personally I think Peyton is gonna end up in Denver if for no other reason than it's the only way to kill Tewbowmania and get away with it for Fox and Elway.

So your saying that Matt Schaub doesn't have a chance to take the Texans to the Super Bowl? I know alot of Texans fans are going mad over Peyton Manning. With 4 neck operations in the last 20 months is too risky for the Texans to trade up Schaub, plus they don't have enough cap space to acquire him. Texans are struggling to re-sign Mario Williams, so there is no way Manning is coming to Houston with the dollars he is commanding for.

No, just that they would be way higher with an in form manning...

Believe me, I would love to have the "old" Peyton playing in Houston instead of the "current" one. wink.gif

So now the Seahawks and Chiefs are now out of the Manning race. Denver and Arizona look likely with the Dolphins still waiting to get a visit.

In other news here's the team by team cap numbers

Teams will clear more cap space in the upcoming weeks by cutting players & restructering contracts..After Peyton Manning there are some other players of quality, like Mario Williams, V-Jax,Finnegan & a bunch of others like Hillis,Bush that can really help teams. Flynn waiting for a pay day. But everything will wait for Peyton Manning.

god i am sooo pumped for nfl free agency. tomorrow 4pm cant come soon enough!!!

for the pats, after franchsiing welker, they have about 16 million in cap space (add another 8 mill if matt light retires). considering they were in the superbowl last year, to have the much cap space is a blessing. they need to beef up the wr/c position on offense and then just focus the rest of free agency and draft on defense.

tgc, what's your view on laron landry? he seems like the type of guy the pats target in fa. young guy with talent but is coming off an injury. they took a gamble on a player in a similar position a few years ago (rodney harrison) and it paid off big. i think landry would be a nice fit next to chung.

LaRon needs to play in a defense that caters to his strengths. His coverage skills leave a bit (or a lot depending on who you ask) to be desired but the guy is a monster in-the-box, just a few years ago he was having a Defensive MVP level season until his Achilles injury cut it short. The problem is that since then he hasn't been healthy and the fact he doesn't want to have surgery on it may not bode well in terms of a full recovery. In general unlike some Redskins fans I think he's a big time player if put in the right situation and if there's anyone that could get that extra something out of him it's probably Belichick. There is also the issue of what he perceives to be his value vs. what it actually is but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

League strips Cowboys, Redskins of millions in cap space

Well, it wasn’t just a rumor.

We explained an hour ago that there has been talk of the NFL taking action against teams that deliberately dumped salaries into the uncapped year of 2010.

The two primary violators were the Cowboys and Redskins, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Per Schefter, the league will punish the teams by removing millions in cap dollars.

How many millions? Schefter reports that the Cowboys will lose more than $10 million — and that the Redskins will lose $36 million. (And now we know why the Redskins got the Griffin deal done last week; the Rams likely would have wanted even more for the second overall pick now.)

The teams can divide the cap losses between 2012 and 2013 in any portion they want. As of Sunday, the Redskins more than $30 million in cap space in 2012. The Cowboys had less than $5 million.

The money will be reallocated to the other teams, with every franchise except the Saints and Raiders picking up $1.6 million in extra cap space. (The Saints and Raiders presumably don’t get the extra money as their own punishment for engaging in similar tactics in 2010.)

So, for the second time in 10 days, the NFL has acknowledged what the NFL deems to be cheating. Though this isn’t as serious as the Saints’ bounty system, the league still thinks it’s cheating. As demonstrated by the consequences.

Thanks for the extra cap space guys thumbs.gif

It makes me very happy that the Cowboys are being punished, thanks for posting this Plato...you made my day.

No doubt you are pretty happy as well seeing as the major offenders that will be punished are in your division....

The Cowboy hit hurts them from 2 big signings to 1... The Redskin is crippling. They might not be able to sign RGIII...LOL.

I'm gonna go back and say don't be so happy the Redskins and Cowboys are getting punished considering they're being punished for not taking part in an illegal practice. It's all big time bullshit and another Goodell power trip. Regardless it doesn't seem to be affecting us tongue.gif We have some of the best cap guys in the league.

The biggest shock of FA so far is Reggie Wayne staying in Indy. I never saw that one coming.
