Chinaglia died two days ago in Florida. Mature Greeksoccer members may remember that he used to be the center forward of Cosmos. Chinaglia used to complain that he would have scored many more goals if he were receiving adequate service from Cosmos' #10. At the time the #10 of Cosmos was Pele who was a bit over the hill but still head and shoulders over the competition in the US. I wonder what position God plays, if he might be #10 in the same team as Chinaglia, and if Chinaglia will continue being upset about the game of his #10. |

R.I.P. I believe he was a commentator for ESPN during the S. Africa World Cup.

Felt terrible when I heard the news. Listened to him daily on Satellite radio on his talk show , so smart, energetic and incisive with his commentary and analysis of the different European leagues.
As a player , I only remember seeing him in highlite reels from his Cosmos days but his legacy and stories like the Pele one you mentioned above were classic famous, historical little stories. Giorgio hated the modern fruity type strikers of today. Liked the big, strong and direct strikers , just like himself. |

i see this a bit late...and greekaus, i also listened to his radio show.
unfortunately, i didn't think much of it and even less of his sidekick - the italia cheerleader, charlie stilletano. still whining and moaning about italy's 2 days rest for the euro 2012 final and rejecting reality by telling the listeners that a maldini, a gentile, a benetti, a costacurta would have stopped spain's attack in the final. it's 2012 charlie, italy doesn't have the same defenders. as far as giorgio, rip. |

Ahhh, Giorgio, what a poacher he was in his days. Saw him regularly when i was a kid, when the cosmos came to old Empire Stadium in Vancouver to take on the whitecaps. Every time he touched the ball, the jeers from the crowd would echo. Showed you the type of respect and reputation he had in his prime and for the majority of his trips to Vancouver, my beloved whitecaps closed him down completely
RIP GIORGIO!!!! This post has been edited by LoneHorseman: Jul 26 2012, 01:25 AM |
