I never said that Porto is a superpower, I just said that Arsenal aren't.

And guys, if you don't respect Porto for their achievement (again, I'm not saying that they're superpower,ok?) , then you don't respect our National Team for Euro triumph.

Let's don't go always with the trends, resulting from the commercial promotion of those teams, and respect even minor clubs.

hmm.gif  And, should we consider Porto a minor club, in comparison with Arsenal? I wonder...

They have:

2 European Cup/Champions' League titles
1 European Super Cup
2 Intercontinental Cup
1 UEFA Cup

How many do Arsenal have?

1 uefa cup
1 cup winners cup

QUOTE(Chris Tsamados @ Feb 25 2005, 09:31 AM)
Well lets think Viera made it pretty plain that he wanted to leave Arsenal, as he wanted to win European silverware.

and where is he now then?? rolleyes.gif he said he wanted to stay to win it with us

you guys are not understanding what im getting at...porto are a big club, yes, but you cant deny that Arsenal are bigger?? come on now...

Gooner-Panatha, till that topic started I was thinking that Arsenal was a bigger club. But I've started thinking whether that's from marketing promotion only... hmm.gif hmm.gif

Porto have supplied the biggest clubs in Europe with the players they 'grew'. Arsenal, Real, Chelsea, are sport clubs but have moved way much from the sense of sport club, and are more business with sports show...

I'm not anti-Arsenal (though Chelsea ph34r.gif ) but weren't you unhappy to support a English club, when against Sheffield Utd, Arsenal had 16 non-English players i the field?

F C PORTO

2 European Cup/Champions' League titles
1 European Super Cup
2 Intercontinental Cup
1 UEFA Cup

worshippy.gif worshippy.gif worshippy.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif

ARSENAL

1 uefa cup
1 cup winners cup

blink.gif blink.gif

Now compare...if arsenal is thought better is only due to promotional marketing...

So is it Arsenal a bigger club just because they have more money?
In fact, that's all the away around; Porto is much bigger because they've done so much more in Europe, with far less resources...
Further, Arsenal is a "poor" club, based on foreign players bought regardless of it being an English club. That's the shitty thing in Europe. If clubs weren't allowed to have foreign players in their teams, things would be very different! So I give much more credit to a club like Porto because they create players instead of just buying them from others.

i agree. the only thing Arsenal has more than Porto is probably fans all over the world. even though Porto has struggled this year, so has Arsenal and if they did play each other, i bet Porto would win.

Arsenal would win, at least at their home ground.
Porto has many many fans around the world, if you'd count them, maybe Porto has more than Arsenal, I bet on that, because there are a lot of portuguese people around the globe, and even if most of them cheer for Benfica, if Porto plays against a foreign club, they will support Porto without a question!

Gooner whats important here is to determining what exactly you think makes one club bigger than the other?

1. Success,
2. Money,
3. Fans

it didnt bother me...haha i was havin this convo last week. basically english players are too expensive. you buy a promising teenager, eg. huddlestone from derby is going to spurs for 2.5m and he is unproven. we got fabregas for nothin and look at him, also anelka for 500,000 quid...english players are way too expensive.

i'd say a combination of all 3 chris. and dont forget history too.
i still think that if 90% of players had a straight choice between Arsenal and Porto then they would choose Arsenal.

our very own seitaridis is a prime example. after the euro's he didnt wanna go there but because he signed a pre-contract before he had to go, otherwise im sure he would've moved elsewhere.

dont get me wrong guys, i respect porto for what they've done the past 2 yrs but i think it is largely down to mourinho.
