Much talk i do like it, just wanted to know for the record who everyone supports in Aussie football on this forum. not who you supported before who you support now.
I will start first.
Sydney Olympic FC - since 1957
ThrylosG7
Nov 7 2010, 11:47 PM
I used to attend quite a few Sydney Olympic games during the NSL - probably 1/2 the games and at least every home game when they were in Cronulla - it would be an insult to call me a supporter now - since I havent been to a game in like 5 years, dont know any of the players or really follow the results that much.
I dont support any AL team - I do watch the games though - I had a soft spot for the Jets because of Constantine - thats gone.
Now i want the Roar to do well cause of Postecoglou - but i wouldnt call it support lol
So my short answer ??
None

Sydney Olympic now days, when we had the luxury of the NSL I was one of those Sydney guys who preferred South Melbourne for a variety of reasons in my parea

happy days!!
Now days its Olympic. I have to say, working in the football media for 12 months and getting involved with that again really opened my eyes to what the every day person does not see about Australian football and what clubs in the Premier Leagues go through with little to no support from state Federations and FFA <-(NO SUPPORT PART). And the effort put in from these clubs, on the field, off the field, nurturing young players and what they can get out of it is MURDER for Aussie Football and just another reason why I wont support the A-League and what the current FFA stand for.

Id join Olympic, but I never had interest in them. Apart from playing for Olympic eagles for 10 years or so

Pete, while I agree Poulos is over the top 9/10 times he has a passion Greeks like yourself and your demographic dont have IMO. If one guy can turn you off a club, thats very little spine in there mate.
Clubs in state leagues need the support of the people thanks to no support from Lowey and co.

Amorgos I never had interest in Olympic. If South came to me about signing up, I probably would.
If Olympic had a bit more structure over getting people to sign up rather than "Your a traitor if you dont line". You limit yourself to a bunch of people who are a dieing breed, who will continue to die.
Im an Aussie and people know that but. I still love Greece.. but that hardline radical approach makes you look like a bunch of muppets.
Look at the lebs of sydney, who now have this reputation on the basis of a few hardcore hoons...

Even I read the stuff at times and think "what a malaka" because its pure stupidity most of the time but its a young Greek youth doing his part as he knows, its not what Olympic are doing and they actually got some decent people on board there now days doing some decent things to get the crowds back and the festival at BSG a few weeks ago had a excellent turn out, thats the Olympic approach, not Alex Poulos's comments on facebook dude.

1. Every asshole stabs you in the back

South Melbourne.
I go to as many games as I can when I'm in Aus, but it's difficult getting to some VPL grounds without a car. I also have a soft spot for Victory and go to a few games (have some good mates who are Victory supporters). Victory games used to be good but dont really go as much anymore. I also dont mind Brisbane now Ange is coaching them - hope they win the title this season. I watch quite a lot of a-league - generally 2-3 games a week.
I go to a few Heidelberg games also (georgraphical convienence).
Last season was great when Souths were playing in Northcote

EDIT: And I'm curious... why would Greeks in Sydney support Souths and not Olympic? Doesn't really make sense.

@ AGP
As far as I know their part of the Ultras, a small group behind the goals at Olympic. If you actually went to an Olympic game you will find you don't have Alex Poulo's surrounding you.
File, you think the "Aussie" community does not do the same, or the Indian, Paki, Italian etc... So you probly had a bad experience with a certain community, does not mean it represents everyone and it does not make your one any better to another person who's probly saying the same thing about your one. It just goes round and round.
Anyways, I just can't see how you can point so much shit to Olympic and I can tell you, your pritty much off the mark and I could be wrong but I think you're not really in touch with the Greek community now days and basing allot of your views on past (and your only young) personal experiences. Your above 3 points are ultra generic
PS. I noticed the St George part which you edited later... Ie. I know many Greek in St George who are quite sound. eg ^

I mean imagine if some italian came up in the 90's and forced this club to change its name even though it has no connection with greece:

That's funny. Reading his original post, I thought Zoom2 was 65 to 70 years old . Since I'm one of the oldest farts on these forums, I actually do remember Pan Hellenic when I was like 12 or something, my Dad and Uncle used to take me and watch soccer when they played at Wentworth Park which I dont know if it still exists but was a place for Greyhound racing.
I remember being told, "lets go watch the Greek team " so I did and when they were telling me the starting lineup there wasnt 1 Greek on the team so I asked what I thought was the logical question at the time " Poi einai oi Ellines " so my Uncle said without batting an eyelid " At the milk bars and Fish N Chips shops working " Crowds during those days were like 2,500 or so.
Wasn't too happy with the entire experience to be honest at that age it was all about Panathinaikos in Greece for me and South Sydney Rugby League, " Wog ball " like my mates at school would say , could not keep my interest level. I do recall best team at the time was Marconi and Apia , both Italian teams, there was as a South Sydney Croatia and the Jewish team, Hakoha or some shit like that.
I think the Sydney Olympic name happened around the same time all names had to be changed to go with the new "Aussie formed league " to stop Ethnic tensions amongst local supporters and get the Skips to embrace the game.
Soccer took forever to move forward much in Australia since those days. The current A league, I actually get to watch games and highlites on FSC in the States , level is OK , way more Professional now but like in the States it struggles to get the media attention from the Anglo Saxon ruled Sports. US and Australia,Canada etc are all on the same boat with that.

Obviously the hardcore approach does not suit you but from the sounds of it your only connection with Olympic is Alex Poulos? Kinda puts you and Olympic at a lose lose situation wouldnt you agree.
The club cant reach out and grab every Greek individually, my suggestion would be to "like" Sydney Olympic and not the Ultras like Poulos to see what the club is really doing. I'm a big fan of the club the last 14 months after getting involved with it and its doing its part with what its got.

We have power on these boards if we had 10 people pumping Olympic our crowds will double.
Saying you support South and yoru form sydney is a cop out, because you know you cant support them.
I personally love south melbourne and my actions on facebook can prove that.
But to the sydney guys on here, what im saying is no one watches the shit a-league give it a go and if we all come togheter we can be in the a-league simple as that.
Frank has said to the people of townsville show yourselves well he saying that to us to.
South melbourne was always bigger and better than Olympic but in not from melbourne so olympic is my club and i accept it for all its faults and beauties.
But now over the last 12 months Olympic has
- Full time staff and beautiful office
- Secured a ground for 25 years, like jesus were not he gypsies anymore
- New website, weekly newsletters, constant talk to media personall
- Peter Tsekenis and morel egend back invvoled in the club
- making links with the greek schools and other communiyt groups
- big sponsorship and not losing money.
So all im saying is things are a changing and getting better and if you dont like the way i promote olympic thats fair enouhg ,but my way is the way of putting it on your mind, if you have a different way im all for it bring it to the table the more of us the better.
All we need is 10 nutcasses like me and will be in the a-league ill bet my right arm on it.

I was at the game against St George at Parramatta Stadium back in '88 I think, when Chris Kalatzis scored in extra time and everyone ran onto the park to celebrate with the players. Still have the game on tape. Magical moments, great times back then.
Katholos, Raskopoulos, Soper, Meier, Phillips, Jennings, Patalis, Patikas, Estavillio, Kalatzis... those were the days!

I know its been a while

but i'll throw my 2 cents in
1st saw Olympic at St George stadium as a 6 year old, every year I remember going to either St George stadium, Leichhardt, SFS, Belmore wherever they were playing to watch Olympic play, their last season at Belmore 2000-2001 NSL season was the last time i saw them in the NSL, they moved to Cronulla and i was like fuck that
I was happy to see them win the championship in 01-02, and then 2 years later the league was killed by Lowy and it was all over
I have never been to a Sydney FC match nor did I or do I give a shit about them i cant get into the a-league.
I hardly ever heard anything about Olympic for the next 5 years, their current team, players, coaches no news at all
But for some reason at the start of last year I was like I want to go watch an Olympic match. I was surprised to see that they still draw a crowd and obviously they had a top year winning everything.
So to answer the original question. Sydney Olympic
