Thryleon,
Bro im a defender aswell.. the season ends in 2 weeks.. and a stiker (that i man mark) has YET!!! to score... But i still wouldnt go into calling myself a gn defender...
Kyrgiakos did everything he could and did a EXCELLENT job in keep Adriano at bay... But cummon you CANNOT BLAME! Kyrgiakos for the wonder goal Adriano scored... and that isnt fair saying that Because a Striker scores he wins the battle Against his Defender

....
Cummon you SHOULD know better than that since you say you play as a defender

... Are you saying you are at fault EVERYIME your man scores??...
If so.. would that make me one of the BEST defenders in Victoria because My men have YET! to score against me????

pleaseee.....

Actually i can, and i would seeing as just before Adriano cuts back onto his left, Kirgiakos dives into a challenge rather than just standing off of him. Adriano then shoots with little or no pressure on him by Kirgiakos, as he is over to his right, and at least 2-3 metres away. Defensive error seeing as Kirgiakos job, was to jockey, not dive in, and show Adriano the line onto his weaker right foot.
If your job is to man mark 1 player, and that 1 player scores, then 1-1, your striker has won the war. It doesnt matter how well you play on him. My coach instructed me about this. Man Markers are responsible to cut out what they can, but if their man scores, they are responsible and the ones to blame. Even if the team is performing poorly. A succesful game for a centre back man marker, is if his man is INEFFECTIVE. For reference, look at Kapsis contribution to euro 2004. His job was to target a forward, follow him around, and make sure that he got limited touches/chances on goal. Kapsis did his job VERY well didnt he?? Man Markers generally dont help much on attack, and are just there to nullify opponents. Even a man marker who stops ANY opponent from scoring on him, is not a "good player" it makes him an effective Defender.
Against the Ukraine, Basinas dived into a tackle, and allowed a player to walk past him. Now Basinas is not necessarily at fault for this goal, the midfielder who was supposed to track his man, didnt do his job. The fact that the sweeper wasnt able to stop the challenge, doesnt make the goal his fault. It was firstly the midfielders job to follow his man, and then the sweeper who although not necessarily the core of the problem, he didnt help much did he?? So as a zonal defender whos job was to pick up what the others miss, he didnt do his job either. Now once again, if he didnt dive in, jockeyed his man back, and showed him the line, there would have been no goal scored, but people were jumping on Goumas blaming him for not chasing, when it wasnt his man who scored. Goumas, had a successful day that game, because Shevchenko was a non factor. Do you guys understand the difference now?? Just because a team cops 5 goals, doesnt mean that the defenders are at fault, or that the defenders didnt have a good game. What it means is that there were MANY parts of the team that didnt perform, and this to me is the most worrying thing.
