First off Maldini pretty much explained everything

2 gkioussis seeing as thats vryzas role well then thats really a shame as seeing and it is quite obvious that seitaridis cotributes more to attack, manages to get more forward than vryzas, croses more than vryzas, make more runs than vryzas so pretty much we have a defender who creates and has more attacking flair than 1 of our starting strikers

Now amorgos i actually do remember harry passing the ball to vryzas once LOL, field distibution ???? ok now do you mean around the field ??? or do you mean every single pass backwards ??? cause if you mean every single pass backwards then yes your right vryzas does many more than those

I mean in holding the ball and getting the team in a good attacking possition, he can do that, Harry always losses it in those situations.
But overall, looking at the big picture for the national team, they are both no producing the goals
Maldini
so does that mean everyone agrees?? we do need a ANANEOSI up front.. a TOTTALY new striking line-up to see how we go thumbs.gif
GiannisAEK
Kyrgiakos is a god damn snail. How would you expect him to play as a lb... He will get burned by pretty much any speedy winger/striker.
Maldini
yeah nice argument Einstein! wacko.gif .... because you know Fyssas is bloody Speedy Gonzalez isnt he?? blink.gif ..... And you know Kyrgiakos REALLY!!! got burned by Bellamy (one of the quickest strikers in EPL) last year in the Old Firm derby.... and Kyrgiakos REALLY!! got burned by Adriano didnt he?? (other than that FREAK goal Adriano scored.. Kyrgiakos made Adriano his little bitch)..
So pwoaa re Giannis_Aek farked you stumped me there re file rolleyes.gif

And my argument was more to do with the STRIKING PAIR! you clown dry.gif .... Kyrgiakos in LB is just my personal pick... because if you ever notice Kyrgiakos occasionally makes a few darting runs (sometimes he is seen as guilty of not tracking back)... and plus If you read my post PROPERLY!! i CLEARLY said Kyrgiakos to be more of the sitting back solid marksmen type LB... and have Giourka as the overlapping RWB...

Actually yeah he did in the 2-1 defeat... Bellamys pace was too much for him to handle and Bellamy scored...
Nikod
also Adriano ran Kyrgiakos ragged down the right in the Confed cup too. Kyrgiakos is a good but limited player. Don't try and make him do thing's he can't.

In your system, we would play 3 centre backs then, and Seitaridis pushing on more as a defender. As for a striker vs defender battle, if that striker scores once, then the defender has lost the battle for the WHOLE game, especially if the opposing team wins. So Kirgiakos may have had the better of Adriano for the whole match, but Adriano came up looking the goods seeing as he scored a goal, and what a goal!! I should know im a defender, and so far this season out of 12 games, only 2 strikers have managed to score a goal while ive been marking them.
Maldini
Thryleon,
Bro im a defender aswell.. the season ends in 2 weeks.. and a stiker (that i man mark) has YET!!! to score... But i still wouldnt go into calling myself a gn defender...

Kyrgiakos did everything he could and did a EXCELLENT job in keep Adriano at bay... But cummon you CANNOT BLAME! Kyrgiakos for the wonder goal Adriano scored... and that isnt fair saying that Because a Striker scores he wins the battle Against his Defender nono.gif ....

Cummon you SHOULD know better than that since you say you play as a defender wink.gif... Are you saying you are at fault EVERYIME your man scores??...

If so.. would that make me one of the BEST defenders in Victoria because My men have YET! to score against me???? huh.gif rolleyes.gif pleaseee.....

Look thryleon your talking about a defence that has been let down extremely by its attacking force, the attacking team collapses on its first touch of the ball with either long airborne passes or stupid missguiding passes giving the opposing team more time with the ball, this pressure does build up on our defence offcourse they will make mistake if their constatly having the ball played in the box the whole 90 minutes

His role is not to take the ball, turn, and run at defenders. It is to receive the ball, hold it to give our midfield a chance to break, and distribute it.

But he's a striker, he shouldn't be giving the ball back to our midfield when there's a chance to break on goal.

He's not the type of player who can run at defenders, which is why he is told to hold the ball and play it back to the support. Would you prefer Zisi to hold the ball and play it back to supporting mids, or to take the whole defense on by himself and most likely lose it. Passing to Charisteas isn't even really an option because "Axristeas" (to coin a common term for him now...even though I don't agree with it) doesn't make any runs off the ball or look create any sort of link up play with Zisi.

I would like to see Otto TRY at least TRY!!! (not to use but to TRY) not saying this would be my best Formation... But i just would like to SEE what would happen with this line-up...

------------------Amanatidis---Samaras
-------------------------Choutos
---------Stelios---------------------------Karagounis
------------------Katsouranis--Zagorakis
-------Kyrgiakos---Dellas---Kapsis-----Seitaridis
------------------------Nikopolidis

We gotta be creative and think outside the circle...to really CHANGE this team around!  smile.gif

Well, apart from there being one too many players tongue.gif , there's no way this formation would work right now. To start, one cannot throw three unproven strikers into the lineup in the thick of World Cup Qualifying. As you said, there is little chemistry between Charisteas and Vryzas. But do you honestly think that there would be instant chemistry amongst three strikers that have never played together? Perhaps we'll see those guys in the future, but I guarentee we won't see anything like it any time soon.

On Kyrgiakos at left-back, I completely agree with GiannisAEK and Nikod. Not only does Kyrgiakos not have the quickness for it, he simply doesn't have the technique to handle wide midfield players running at him. Although Fyssas is not the fleetest of foot, he knows how to position himself and play the position so as to not be forced to chase. Kyrgiakos is a centre-back. He can't play anything else, especially fullback.

As for your suggestion to take Zago out of the lineup to make the squad an even eleven: it won't happen as well. Zagorakis is the emotional leader on our team; we need him in there.

You hardly see Harry and Vryzas linking up for through balls and such, but why? Maybe its like you said that Charisteas doesn't make the effort to run in to good scoring posistions, or maybe Vryzas is too slow and seems to lose the ball often when he tries to get around a defender. All I know is that it has been what, six games without scoring? Thats far too long to go without scoring. We need to change something. Be it players, formation or strategy. The perfect time would have been the friendly against Belgium, but we lost that match and I don't know if Otto got anything positive from that match. And the Qualifiers are too important to fiddle around with the team. Honestly if we make the World Cup with this current team I will be amazed.

Actually i can, and i would seeing as just before Adriano cuts back onto his left, Kirgiakos dives into a challenge rather than just standing off of him. Adriano then shoots with little or no pressure on him by Kirgiakos, as he is over to his right, and at least 2-3 metres away. Defensive error seeing as Kirgiakos job, was to jockey, not dive in, and show Adriano the line onto his weaker right foot.

If your job is to man mark 1 player, and that 1 player scores, then 1-1, your striker has won the war. It doesnt matter how well you play on him. My coach instructed me about this. Man Markers are responsible to cut out what they can, but if their man scores, they are responsible and the ones to blame. Even if the team is performing poorly. A succesful game for a centre back man marker, is if his man is INEFFECTIVE. For reference, look at Kapsis contribution to euro 2004. His job was to target a forward, follow him around, and make sure that he got limited touches/chances on goal. Kapsis did his job VERY well didnt he?? Man Markers generally dont help much on attack, and are just there to nullify opponents. Even a man marker who stops ANY opponent from scoring on him, is not a "good player" it makes him an effective Defender.

Against the Ukraine, Basinas dived into a tackle, and allowed a player to walk past him. Now Basinas is not necessarily at fault for this goal, the midfielder who was supposed to track his man, didnt do his job. The fact that the sweeper wasnt able to stop the challenge, doesnt make the goal his fault. It was firstly the midfielders job to follow his man, and then the sweeper who although not necessarily the core of the problem, he didnt help much did he?? So as a zonal defender whos job was to pick up what the others miss, he didnt do his job either. Now once again, if he didnt dive in, jockeyed his man back, and showed him the line, there would have been no goal scored, but people were jumping on Goumas blaming him for not chasing, when it wasnt his man who scored. Goumas, had a successful day that game, because Shevchenko was a non factor. Do you guys understand the difference now?? Just because a team cops 5 goals, doesnt mean that the defenders are at fault, or that the defenders didnt have a good game. What it means is that there were MANY parts of the team that didnt perform, and this to me is the most worrying thing.

Anyone know what the hell is happening with Zisis at a club playing level?
MIA ZOI
Back at Fiorentina.

I doubt he will play ahead of Boijnov and Toni.
Amorgos
Vryzas might find himself in Germany after all.
Rumours are Nurnberg are interested in him, they are in the Bundesliga and currently in 15th spot after 2 rounds on 1pt

I've heard that as well, had a read on it a couple of days ago

Players like samaras should be playing on the under-21 nt not the full. He is not ready to play for his country on such a level. Besides he isn't very good, don't expect anything from this guy atleast not yet. Vryzas does things off the ball that get very little notice and it's what he does off the ball that keeps him in his place on the nt. He can play the decoy, take defenders out of play. He has a great header and a good shot. The guy hasn't scored because all of his great chances are either at a too acute angle or hits the posts. Vryzas is definately not he player who should be looked at for the sudden goal drought. The blame should be put on otto's attacking plan. Everyone knows how it goes, crosses in the box from corners freekicks, crosses from giannakopoulos, zagorakis or Seitaridis. Yes if you have seen zagorakis play you will see that he is involved in every play, just look at his euro stats mosts passes and most slide tackles (so he's involved both defensively and offensively). Point is the players are little tired and Otto needs to have a new plan, Greece needs to look at the weakness of each team and creat a plan around that to expose it and take advantage of it, no team is flawless.
gk2033
exactly aek!!!! i think we should change things up... put amanitidis as an attacking midfielder... he can play that role and can create but also score
driveby187em
nai vlakies i betcha if vryzas wasent to smart or sub in2 the game at all greece would end up scoring 3,4 goals
Amorgos
Bravo aek21!!!! clapping.gif
Well said, because that is SPOT ON about Vryzas's role with the ethniki!
Its the role he is given! And off the ball play, he is the best at, I think those who play the game and read the game well can see this
Stratos9
Zisis plays a very important role, holding up the ball, decoy runs etc. However may need to change his role against particular teams as of them have different weaknesses. He has experience aswell, something which is very helpful in crucial games.

Well we should see him finally retire from the ethniki. If he's somehow still starting during Euro 2008 qualifiers, i'll go insane.
goldblood
would you retire if you had a guaranteed spot no matter how shit you were on a national team? itll make him more money on a second division team somewhere if hes an international. unless him or otto die hes probably not leaving that team unfortunately ... and ill join you in the mental hospital cause ill fucking go insane too.

Yes, Firoentina...

They havE an in-form MR Luca Toni on the striker position, maybe the best striker in the world for the moment, 15 goals in Italy so far!

Don't think Vryzas will get a chance there, he should move back to greece, Atromitos or something wink.gif
