Tare to replace Vryzas?
Thursday 18 December, 2003
Perugia may make a move for Bologna striker Igli Tare in January as a replacement for Zisis Vryzas.
The Albanian international is a possible target after the Umbrian club agreed to sell Vryzas to Fiorentina.
The 30-year-old Greek will join the Serie B club in the New Year after the two clubs agreed a £1.5m deal.
Vryzas is set to be thanked for his three years at the Stadio Curi by being handed the captain’s armband against Brescia on Sunday.
"I think he will turn out to be one of the best signings in the January window," stated his Perugia teammate Massimo Margiotta.
"He is not only a great player but a great man too. I’m sad to see him go but I’m sure he will excel in Serie B.
"Perugia owe him a lot and vice versa. I think we are losing a real personality with his departure."

Players like Lybe are blessed with talent but have no idea how to use it,take advantage of what has been granted as a gift from above, nor have the heart wich is the most important ingrediant in becoming a real champion. That is why players like Lybe have no place with the ethniki. If we bring Lybe, then we should bring back Georgato and Gonias also... Common guys let`s get serious here.
Stay home all of you.

Never said it made them a good player but at EURO we will be going up against teams that are much more talented than us, I really don't understand how players that either dont have a team, dont play with their team, or are in the second division will be picked over these guys(especially Georgatos with his killer instinct and his winners mentality)who are starters in the top teams of Greece and perform on a consistant basis.

Its because they play for the shirt re AB, get it through your head that Georgatos and Lybe don't give a rat's ass about the Ethniki, if they came and played they would be at the clubs in Portugal every nite just like the malakes in teh World Cup 94. Otto has brought in players that will play until they drop for the blue and white.

What did all the years of our "star" players like Lymbe and Georgato bring us??? embarrising defeats to Finland, Latvia, Albania and years of no qualification. I cannot believe your thinking AB. These players play for the shirt, and they have proved themselves. These are our warriors. I don't want jackass like Georgato and Lymbe in the team. It's more than just talent, it's mentality, work ethic and the most important, HEART.

Fiorentina is a quality side. i dont belive its a down step. They will most likely go to Serie A next year while Perugia drops down to B. I think alot of people are making assumptions about Vryzas because he played like crap vs N Ireland.

And do the guys who are crying seria B on Vryzas.... do you think this will effect his game at all?

Dont think so, he will still be picked for the ethniki and do good like he always does!
Good luck Vryza!!

The Serie B season is not even at the midway point so please save your comments until the season is a little closer to the end. I would bet that Fiorentina will gain promotion since 5 teams will be promoted this year. They are making some signings to strengthen their teams (Vryzas is one of them). This team was pushed from regional leagues into the Serie B in one season because the powers that be want them to be back where they belong in the Serie A and they will get there as soon as possible.

all i am saying is that vryzas was used playing in the tough defending serie a and going to euro would have helped us big time..
i know that the serie B is not terrible but it is no serie a, i just hope he does not loose a step
because his experience can go a long way calming alot of our youngsters down,
plus we are all getting ahead of ourselves, we are only half way through the year and other greek players can still grab a spot if a regular has a bad second half, those are rehaggel's words

if he scores 10-15 goals now in serie b he will still make the squad for euro, if he does poorly he will become a role player and lose his starting place in the team... however Vryzas is the type of player that plays within himself, he does his job and is never vocal about playing time etc, hes the consumate professional, and we need more greek players with his attitude

Vryzas is an exemple to be tought to all. Let`s back track a bit over here in history. Everyone in the football world laughed at Polixroniou when he called upon the striker to play at first in the qualifications of the `96 European championships for the ethniki. His too slow, his too this, his to that,we need our vedettes in there... the Maxlas`s,the Nikolaidis`s,the asxetoi Froussos and Anastasiou and many more...but all have failed and the final outcome we never saw a qualification or a participaction in a major tournament for Greece sice 1994 when we played in the world cup. Then came the year 2003 and the match in Spain. Vryzas is alone leading the attack for Greece and we won. Then came the match with Ukaine and even if he didn`t score we won again, then the game winning goal against Armenia on the road and the game winning penalty against Northern Ireland and so on... For the first time I see the ethniki winning and Vryzas is a huge part of this. His dedication and professionalism has made Vryza a star and a player to fear on the field. He deserves credit for his success in Italy and his huge contribution and sacrefices for the ethniki. This kid has a heart made out of Gold and I wish him all the best were ever he goes and decides to continue his football carreer. I truly believe that serie B is more competitive than the Greek premier on a weekly basis so why is there people in here bashing and critisizing Vryzas move if he decides to continue with Fiorentina??? Who in here has any right to critisize Vryza after what he has accomplished for himself first abroad all alone and then with the ethniki?
In my eyes Vryzas is a hero and deserves full respect from everyone. He has silenced his critics many times and I congradulate him for suprising me as well with his play. Most importantly, Vryzas will be ready for Portugal this summer.

Let me just say one thing, have a look at the differences from league to league in country to country. The way i see it, defensive wise Italy is by far the hardest to score in. The best players in the world have all played in Italy at one stage or another. Be it Davids, Henry, Nedved, Zidane, Ronaldo, etc......(need i go on??)
Even now I know its no real comparison, but most of the Australians on the NT play abroad in England. In the last campain we had to beat Uruguay over two legs to qualify for the World Cup. 1-1 draw at home, 3-1 loss in Uruguay. Most of the players in Uruguays line up were playing in Italy at the time. It just goes to show the difference between Italy and England, let alone Italy and Greece or anywhere else for that matter. Every time he scores in the Serie A Vryzas should recieve a medal. Serie A is the toughest league to play in and if you can do okay there, then you can survive anywhere.

The fans are at every game, Fiorentina are moving up the ladder, and Zisis is playing very well. He did not score a goal today, but had an impact in their 2-1 win.
Fiorentina 2-1 Cagliari
The Viola took the lead with a spectacular strike after 15 minutes of play. Zisis Vryzas held up an Enrico Fantini cross and their top scorer Christian Riganς did the rest with a magnificent overhead kick. Cagliari were sluggish in their fightback and left lone striker David Suazo isolated by closing down Gianfranco Zola. Ex-Perugia hitman Vryzas really has made an impact since joining and was brought down by Simone Loria for Riganos penalty. Things got worse for Cagliari soon after when Gianluca Festa was booked for a challenge from behind, then saw red for dissent. However, they got back into the game with 15 minutes left on the clock thanks to Marcello Albino turning in a corner kick. Both sides finished the game in ten men, as new signing Tomas Manfredini was sent off for a professional foul on Fabrizio Cammarata.
Scorer: Riganς 15, pen 55 (F), Albino 75 ©
Sent off: Festa 63 ©, Manfredini 92 (F)
An assist, and a earned penalty.
