In their first league encounter, AEK strolled past Aris with relative ease. This time around, the tables were turned. After ninety minutes, Aris had secured all three points with a 2-1 victory.
The first half seemed to belong to AEK. The Athenians had many chances beginning with Blanco's header in the third minute. Shortly after, Burns used his speed to run riot up the right flank. Through Burns, both Michel and Blanco had chances to score but nothing manifested.
AEK's third corner was somewhat fruitful with Mateos getting a header off at extremely close range. The chance went begging and the defender really should have done better.
For half an hour, Aris did not have a single sniff at goal. They did however pull off one moment of brilliance. Neto found himself on the receiving end of a through ball and had no hesitation. He pulled off a cool finish and put Aris in the lead.
AEK again had chances in the second half but this time they were slightly more productive. Early on, Scocco danced around Vangjeli and crossed to Blanco. The Argentine extended his leg and struck the ball past Sifakis. AEK had gotten the equalizer but that would be all.
After the goal, Blanco had a volley, Mateos had another header and Baha had a one-on-one with Sifakis. To the dismay of the home crowd, none of these chances had the finish they deserved.
Aris on the other hand, had a very similar second half. They only had one shot on goal and it went in. It should come as no surprise that Neto was the man responsible for securing the lead once more. The Brazilian used his skill to evade both Dadomo and Diop and carefully placed the ball past Arabatzis' reach.
AEK spent the remaining time chasing Aris but could not salvage anything. This has been typical of their season. Other than that, Castillo made an appearance but had no impact on the game. Finally, Mateos picked up a second yellow and was sent off in his debut.
