With four games played, AEK were in a seemingly promising position. With a win here, AEK would have led the playoff table. However, it was not a good day for the Athenians as Olympiakos Volou snatched a late winner in the 84th minute through Dolezaj.
In the first half, Volou only fashioned two noteworthy chances. The first came from Monje whose run resulted in a shot on target. Volou's second chance came much later when Martin had a crack at goal. This time around, the shot was too strong and flew over the crossbar.
On the other end, Scocco made a great run in the 20th minute and took a shot from just outside the box. The Argentine found the goal but he also found Jakupovic in the process. Shortly after, Baha's long range effort yielded similar frustration.
Later on, AEK created two moments of excitement. Scocco launched a tricky cross into the box which forced Jakupovic into making a save. If not for the keeper, the cross may have ended up in the back of the net. Soon after, Roger lobbed a pass to Scocco which cut open the defense. Scocco got into a rare one-on-one but the keeper got to the ball first.
In the second half AEK was desperate to make something happen. Scocco's shot skimmed the net early on. Then, the Argentine's corner found Diop who missed by a small margin.
After being subbed in, Eder collected the ball outside the box and missed just slightly. One minute later, Eder was in on goal but his bad control took the ball away from him. Scocco salvaged the ball and picked out Roger who missed.
After the scramble, AEK earned a corner kick which was taken by Roger. The cross picked out Dellas but the defender's header was saved. AEK was creating numerous chances but nothing would go in.
It is perhaps ironic that Volou would create the only goal of the game. In the final minutes, Breska's free kick met Dolezaj's head and went in. Saja dived to make a save but he was too late.
In stoppage time, Mateos scored off a free kick but he was ruled offside. With the game over, AEK drop down to third spot with Panathanaikos leading the playoff table.
