AEK Athens coach Nikos Kostenoglou is a worried man of late after players Savvas Gentzoglou and Nathan Burns both only recently departed the club, Nikos Karambelas is another player thinking of jumping ship.

Kostenouglou is now worried more players will seek new fortunes elsewhere as the historic club from Athens battles major economic problems.

After Savvas Gentzolou sought out his release due to not been paid on a regular basis and signing with Serie B club Sampdoria, Genzoglou also made a concession to the club in agreeing to receive 160,000 euro of the 260,000 euro the club owned for his release. Nathan Burns was the next player to follow suit.

The move by the Australian player has brought fear to Kostenoglou who has since asked the board at AEK to do what they can so no more players seek to be released.

Kostenoglou’s fears only increased when, after the last training session on Friday (20/01) another player, left back Karambelas expressed his future thoughts of looking for another club.

Karambelas expressed much concern and disappointment over the situation he and the club find themselves in and has little options but to look elsewhere for a more financially secure future.

It has also been revealed Karambelas has also spoken to club president Stavros Adamidis about a release as Karambelas does have offers from other clubs and he could very well be the next to leave the club.

While there is no doubt Kostenoglou is doing his best to keep the calm with the many players who have much Euro’s owing, no doubt these are nervous times for the historic club which is seeking new investors to help in these tough economic times in the country.
