UEFA Champions League hopefuls PAOK FC have made an early coaching change as the club has announced Pavlos Dermitzakis will step in for the sacked Mario Beretta. The Thessaloniki outfit fired Beretta on Thursday after a poor preseason campaign that saw the Dikefale tou Vorra drop several friendlies, including a recent tilt with German minnows Kickers Offenbach.
The Greek Super League's play-off winners face Dutch giants Ajax AFC on Wednesday for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie. Facing a stiff opponents like Ajax, PAOK's board believes the team wouldn't have been able to achieve their goals under Beretta.
The presentation of Dermitzakis makes the former Panthrakikos manager the third PAOK coach in the past six months as Fernando Santos stepped down from his post at the Toumba Stadium to take over the reins of the Greek National Team.
Dermitzakis' first bit of action at his new job will come in the Dutch capital on Wednesday as Ajax host PAOK at the Amsterdam Arena. Your views on this story >>
