3rd Annual Hellenic Soccer Tournament - Schaumburg, Illinois, USA - August 29, 30 & 31, 2008
Windsor Hellenic Football Club (Men's Competitive Division), Panellinios Football Club (Men's Recreational Division), and GREEKSOCCER.COM (Men's Over 30 Division) were crowned Hellenic Soccer Tournament Champions.
Olympic Park in Schaumburg, Illinois, USA (near Chicago) was the site chosen for the 3rd Annual Hellenic Soccer Tournament. The battle for the undisputed North American Amateur Hellenic Soccer Tournament championship included 22 teams representing 10 cities (Chicago, Detroit, Hamilton, Hicksville, Richmond Hill, Sarnia, Thornhill, Toronto, Windsor, and Winston-Salem) from 2 different countries (Canada and USA). With clear blue skies, all teams and spectators enjoyed perfect fall weather.
This year's tournament featured a special "tournament kickoff" game sponsored by the Council of Hellenes Abroad USA Region. Two teams, ages 10-12, participated in what it promises to be the start of youth teams attending this wonderful event.
The Men's Open Competitive Division championship crown went to Windsor Hellenic Football Club from Windsor, Ontario, Canada after the second time participant beat first time participant Samos Pythagoras from Hicksville, New York, USA with a score of 3-2.
The Men's Open Recreational Division championship crown went to Panellinios Football Club from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada after the third time participant and twice runner-up beat first time participant club Sarnia Hellenic Football Club from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada with a score of 2-0.
The Men's Over 30 Division championship crown went for the second year in a row to the tournament's organizing club GREEKSOCCER.COM from Chicago, Illinois, USA after last year's champions beat Hellenic United Athletic Club from Chicago, Illinois, USA in penalties 5-4 (normal time period score was 1-1).
The 3rd Annual Hellenic Soccer Tournament was concluded on Sunday, August 31st, 2008 with the Awards Reception. Prizes were awarded to the winners in the presence of S.A.E. USA Region President Mr. Ted Spyropoulos, and all participating club representatives.
