AEK president calls it quits

AEK president Giorgos Kintis has stepped down after only 35 days at the job.

According to unconfirmed news sources the 40 year-old economics major submitted his resignation on Monday night (1/5/09) but is not yet known if P.A.E. AEK's management has accepted it or not.

The reasons stemming behind Kintis' resignation have to do with the fact that the club's majority shareholders never included or consulted with him when it came to the managerial and financial aspects of the club.

Kintis had scheduled a press conference for Wednesday where he was going to talk in detail about the club's financial state - other rumors had him speaking on 1/31/09 after the end of the winter transfer period.

Reports state that AEK shareholders will try to convince Kintis to return to his post but all signs point to a road that has already been paved.

P.A.E. AEK shareholders denied rumors that surfaced a few days ago having them wanting to sell their shares of the club. One thing is for certain though - on Sunday (1/4/09) they held a telephone conversation with Nikos Notias from the Unites States of America and decided to hold on to their stock shares.
