Kerkyra initially had four major football clubs, Aris (1924), Ellispontos (1923), Asteras (1926) and Olympus Garitsas (1934). From the early 1920s until the 1964-65 season matches were only held between teams on the island. That year it was announced that the team which won the local cup would take part in what equates to today's Third National League. The four teams met and decided that whoever won that years cup would unify with the other three and take their best player into a new team Kerkyrian Athletic Organization. Olympus Garitsas disagreed with this idea and stated that if it won the cup it would retain its name and take the best players of the other teams. Every one agreed. That year Aris won the cup and was rename Kerkyrian Athletic Organization.
Kerkyra was promoted for the first time to the Greek first division (Alpha Ethniki), in the 2004-2005 season.
